i'm looking for a cheap supplier of steel and aluminium in the surrey langley area .mostly for some small fab work such as roof rack skid plates , bumpers etc...
any help would be great . thanks ....jeff
i got quoted 200$ for a 6x5 sheet of checkerplate aluminum, 1/8 thick at alder steel mart. anyone know of any cheaper places. this sounds like a good deal too me
pipe is for plumbing tube is for exos:******* its the way it bends, pipe crushes more when bent and loses strenght, tube doesnt, im not saying you cant build an exo out of pipe tho
Just a thought. Take a 3 foot piece of tube and whack it on a nice edge like a table or something. Examine dent. Do it with a 3 foot piece of sch40 pipe and there will not be a dent to be examined. It's all about different impacts.
like 1.5" and up anything with a wall thickness more than .188 is going to beand about the same tube or pipe
the only major diff between the 2
if they are the same wall thickness is the seam and how they are measured
Buffalo Custom Steel and Alder Steel are located on the same yard; I get all my metal from Alder; Ask to talk to Vern(He usually hgives me sweet deals).
That is a good deal, I paid $1.56 and thought I was getting the bulk discount deal, guess I'll have to try and get it a little lower next time. Yours is new material right?
It was new metal. I also bought 4x8 sheet of 12 gage for 65 bucks + tax
ABC Traders which is at the corner of #3 Rd and Bridgeport in Richmond is the place for aluminum, they quite often have checker plate, $2 a pound .
Ganger Ent. at 132nd and 64th in Surrey carries stainless.
Theres a short order metal place in Lorit Industrial Park, on 132nd about 7800block (?) and Pro Gas Engineering beside them will sell and bend 1 5/8" and 1 3/4" roll bar tubing.
for hi-shine 0.125" and 0.100" aluminum single bar checker - drop me a line - we build firetrucks at werk and usually have a fair amount of checker and plain aluminum around firetrucks gotta have some bling or else the crews wouldnt have something to wash and polish.
I work for a steel fab company and we are large enough to get discounts from the major suppliers. If I can be of assistance e-mail me. We stock most guages of mild steel, aluminum, stainless.

I'm a buyer at a shop in Richmond. Buy Metals all the time Corus Metals in Delta is a good supplier will supply any size and sell to the Metal supermarkets etc...940-0439
Custom Plate and Profile - Good supplier
AJ FORSYTH is expensive but carries a lot of stock. But they are just too expensive and their min order is ridiculous.
PNJ (ex Metal Supermarket) in Richmond - they are wierd but are good with cutting special deals dependent on what they have etc...always looking for the sale.
Have Fun!
Finally a post I cad add too. I work at a steel shop Team Tube, just off of united blvd. in coquitlam and we are supplies to most of the above shops. We sell steel by the foot inch or pound depending on how much you need. Unfortunately we only sell tubing and shafts, no plate, or chanel iron. And if you come by the shop to pay for your order, we will cut it right away, no waiting three days like you do at AJ Forsyth.

I second that - I buy from Team Tube all the time and my orders are always rush, they deliver and carry tons of stock.
AJ Forsyth is a little iffy on dims as well, if you need exact sizing.
AJ Forsythe is a rip off in every degree possible, I know cuz I do lots of shipping for them.
Custom Plate & Profile in Annacis Island might be a place to check. Also North American Pipe & Steel in Delta is good too, out on River Road there. Or Terra Nova Steel in Delta. Check em out. Most of the small places will be a rip off, cuz well they are small and don't buy for bulk prices, so they won't sell at bulk prices. Oh also Samuel Specialty Metals in Port Kells is a good supplier of aluminum.
But do remember that steel prices are up :angry because China stopped exporting to the rest of the world, pah, just because they are trying to build 5 more large cities! COME ON! :*******

Actually its more like china is buying most of the worlds supply of steel, or to be more presice, all of korea's steel, so they have no reason to ship it across the globe to us poor saps, unless we pay through the nose for it.
Actually Both the US and Canada have imposed Tariffs that would increase the price dramatically on chinese metals. It's part of an effort to increase local production on the East Coast which has seen dramatic losses since the inexpensive chinese material has been entering North America. :soso
Well either way you guys want to say it, whether steel is being bought in mass by one country or tariffs imposed, the fact is steel is friggin' expensive.
In order to alleviate costs, you must cut out as many middle men as possible. That means you should buy from the suppliers, not the dealers. Obviously you cannot buy from a steel mill directly, because the amount of steel they produce immediately dwarfs the largest order you could possibly give them. So, the next best is to buy from the steel mill customers or purchasers.
Oh screw it, I'm not gonna spout off like some uptight bitch with a pole up her ass. Phone around ya lazy bastards and get the best prices and post it on here for everyones good! :*******
Side note, steel is in such demand that one of our customers (NSC) is paying 3 times more for steel supply. Another customer said they are selling their scrap for $.30/ft (pipe) up from $.03/ft a year ago. Later.
