new xterra's ?

Heya..

just curious as to any personal reports on new xterras.. im looking at buying one of the se-sc's.. they look kinda nice and are pretty cheap for a new truck.

one thing i noticed was that ass-ugly massive shifter on the standard, anyone know WHY its so big, or if you can get decent short-throw kits ? it seems to big to be practical..

how about modding these things, are they terribly safe to raise ? they seem slightly top-heavy from the exterior..

Oh, and anyone know why the towing capacity is 5000lb on an auto, and 3500 on a std? seems off.

I'll be using it for small trips around the city (not daily commuting), and heading off into the bush.. want to be able to tackle FS roads and what have you without thinking twice.. and have the fussy woman in relative comfort while doing so

Think this truck would be suitable? any input would be greatly appreciated!

Not many X-terra owners I've noticed here. I'm considering getting one for myself though.

We bought a new SE-SC this June, and for a new truck it works pretty good. It also tows very well with the auto.
Had it out in the sand and ther is a lot of dune climbing power here, the limited slip rear actually works pretty well.
No mods yet as she won't let me scratch it up while I have 2 FJ40's to play with. But a lift is next.
Calmini sells lots of parts for these trucks.
