    Opinions on the np208

Iím thinking of swapping out my transfer case and putting in an np 208...
The truck currently has a sm465 4 speed transmission and a married timken/rockwell t-221 transfer case..
I just wanted to see what peoples opinions were of the np208, what are its faults or weaknesses and what are its strengths.......
    thanks

Depends on how hard you are going to beat on it. I have not had any problems with them for every day 4 wheeling.

The NP208 transfer case is a chain drive, two-piece aluminum case. Not as strong as the NP205 Gear driven, cast case.

The NP208 has a better 4Lo reduction ratio of 2.61:1

    The NP205 is 1.96:1

The 208 won't bolt to your tranny - its 10-spline. The 32-spline 208 was used behind the SM465 from 81-88. The SM465 had a longer 32-spline output for this, and a different adapter.

A T221, NP205, or a NP203 (very rare mind you) are the only t-cases that will bolt right up to your SM456.

they're correct, due to the spline count it isnt a direct swap, you'd have to find a 81 and up SM465/NP208 combo that is 32 spline, and swap the whole unit in.

I'd be inclined to go the NP205 route.

You can get a 465/205 fixed yoke, 10 spline, combo for 300 bux.

I know about the spline count, that is one of the reasons I would like to get rid of this tranny transfer case combo, it eats splined couplers, i had a line on a 4 speed with a married 208 and was just wondering what people thought of it.....
Jeep freak, where can i get that combo you are talking about?

Try automan on this board (mangarage@hotmail.com) or crewcab454 (find him in the chevy section). Post a ad in the wanted section too.

These combos are very common and you should be able to find one plenty easy.

    Good Luck!
