    rear lockers?

anyone have any detriots kickin around for an h233b i think it is? lol probably not, worth a shot though. how strong are these rear axles to weld? would welding the front break a whole bunch of things around corners and such? can the cv shafts handle a welded up front?

I hear you can put a couple extra clutch plates in a pathfinder limited slip and it works like a locker. It's supposed to be fairly strong too. Just something I heard.

I talked with a guy who welded a Front diff and he said he couldn't stear the thing, he had to wheel with one hub unlocked and only lock it when needed.

I'm thinking of trying that rear diff setup.

really? no steer on the front... well that comes with welding it i guess, i have friends even with limited slips (detroit electrac) in their d44s and they complain about steering, then i know of people with fully welded fronts that cant live without em. for that clutch plate rear end locker idea, i am gettin a limited slip rear carrier sent out soon, has anyone tried this idea? its worth a shot.

I've taken apart my fronts and the CV joints are pretty big and beefy. I don't know exactly how strong they are but I wheel with both diffs locked and chains on all 4 tires have never broken anything (except soft stuff like brake lines). I think the main factor will be how big your tires are. If you are running 35" or bigger, you might break something. There are tons of guys running 33's on locked Pathy/Hardbody front ends with no problems.

dean how does your front locker work with your steering offroad? as you probably i have warn prems. on the front to unlock for highway but offroad i never considered locking the front yet. what are you running, all i can find for the front locker is ARB... too rich for my blood. i would never find a use around here to run any tires bigger then 33s anyway.

    locker off = steering on.
    locker on = steering off.

Steering feels really stiff with a front locker engaged. The truck wants to go straight ahead.
That's why I'm sold on selectable lockers...
First you point the truck where you want to go, then you lock the front. If you have to make a tight turn, then flip the switch to disengage the locker, make your turn, and flip it back on.

    I'm running 32x11.5 MT/R's.

'nother point, when i get a rear limited can i put in an extra disc to "turn" it into a locker? where would i pick up an extra disc from? for the front i think the only choice would be arb am i right? i know welding isnt the best way for the rear... if i did would it handle the 33s without throwing away too many axle shafts/carriers? would it be welded like a "normal" carrier off something like a dana 44, 60, etc? i never stripped my carrier out yet on the pathy. excuse the newbie questions as to that effect.

I've heard of putting extra discs into a limited slip, but I don't know where to get them or how to do it.

Your H233B rear diff and axles are slightly bigger and stronger than a Dana 44, so I don't think you'll break anything in the drivetrain by welding the spider gears. You will wear the tread on your tires much more quickly though, because every corner you take on the street will cause your rear tires to chirp and skid.

gotta love it, when i drive the jeep around town everyone thinks i just have sooo much juice under the hood that i dont need throttle to squeal the tires! little do they know i am takin slight corners. new idea, if i chose welded rear over locker (until fulltime job kicks some money at me) and ARB front, 29, yes 29" tires (ah ha,) these are full agricultural tires, tractor tread and ford coils rear with slight torsion crank front would this do me most trails? i really dont know how agri. tires work in rocks... worth a try. they bite hard though so this is why i ask about the h233b's overall strength.

I didn't know that agricultural tires were approved for highway use. Even if they are I can't imagine driving around town or on the highway on tractor treads, especially when the roads get wet.
I don't know anything about the trails in Osoyoos, but on the coast I don't think 29" tires with a slight (1-2") torsion lift will allow you to do "most" trails. I think you'd be better off with 31" or 32" Goodyear MT/R's, a limited slip or selectable locker in the rear and later when finances allow, a selectable locker up front.

lol, no the agri tires would be a 3rd set for me, i would run my at/s for the highway, or my mudders but definately not the agris. wouldnt mind a set of mt/rs but if i want a locker then those arent in the budget. plus i have a set of 33s kickin around from the jeep that if i can fit i wouldnt mind on the pathfinder. has anyone tried a detroit in the rear of a pathy? one i priced out i think ran somewheres around $600 usd, might have been canadian.
