    2004 Tracker exploration rig build

Shop has been super busy lately so we have not had allot of time to post up build threads, but it was time to clear off te camera so I'll through one up of a Tracker that we have been working on.

Customer has owned this Tracker since new in 2004 and felt it was time to do a few things that he has always wanted to do to it. He spends allot of time out doors and wanted to venture further out in remote areas then he was able to stock, but being the year of the rig there was not allot out there aftermarket wise to get the rig where he wanted it to be so we built pretty much everything from scratch and made a real sweet rig out of it..

Customer wanted, extra lighting, heavy duty plate style bumpers,34-35 tire, gears, lockers, onboard air, exta cargo space so heavy duty rack, 5" of lift, winch, sliders, and beef up all the axles and internals.

This will be a bit of a exploration style rig so this will be the start of the build to get it to where he wants it..

A little bit of a build list to start it off

    - Toyota front axle, hipin 529 zip locker, dirty 30s,cromo hub gears,BCC ifs widening kit, trussed, vented rotors,v6 calipers, aisin hubs, histeer flipped to bottom side.

    - Rear Toyota wide track, 529 zip, kept drum brakes for now as they were mint off donor axle,

    -radflo coilovers front 2.0

-jeep rubicon rear springs, with bilstien 5100's for rear, cromo ruffstuff hiems front/back with poly bushings at one end of links.

-BCC linked front and ear suspension, Toyota IFS steering box, modded intermediate shaft,

    -viair extreme duty system

-BCC custom built front and rear bumpers, rear with a swing away tire carrier.

    -warn 8000lb winch

-Rigid 20" led bar for frnt

    -BCC upper cargo rack

    -Sliders

-duratracs with a 16" steel wheel.

here is a few pics enjoy..

super clean unmolested rig time to start cutting it apart..

So you can see from these few pictures how little ground clearance and how huge the bumpers are which would affect you with your approch and depature angle so we will take care of that building the bumpers..

massive muffler will need to go making room for the new link suspension that we will build..

The start of taking it apart will start out on this end of the shop and go to the fab end shortly..

clean up of a stock toy frot housing along with a wide track rear.

Moved it tothe other end of the shop to where it will be worked onfor the next while. few things with these rigs they have a fairly wide set of frame rails, deep in thickness which we will need to slim up and the steering rack style which we will nee to swp to a toyota steering box.

Re: 2004 Tracker exploration rig build

    More stuff to cut off...

    junk pile is becoming bigger

    almost clean slate...

    couple grinding discs later..

First it was time to put together the front diff and rear so we can figure out pinion angles and castor at desired ride height.

after assembley of the front axle this much we figured out fairly quickly that the tre assembly tube will need to be on the bottom side of the arms so we had to modify them for that...

Re: 2004 Tracker exploration rig build

starting with the link set up..

frame mounts spent a bit tuning out the suspension on the calculator..

rear upper tg mount worked out well for angles to frame rails so some machined out spacers were made to work with the hiems and drilled the holes out for larger bolts..

buzzed up some coil spring pads

    setting up the front

rear is back out welding on some tabs to build brake lines and back in agian..

Re: 2004 Tracker exploration rig build

starting to get the front suspension together

Since were at ride height we can mount the steering box.

And then figure out our tracbar location.

built a drag link with 555 tres, and mounted the tre assembly tube to the bottom side of the histeer arms..

    sitting at ride height

final clean up of cargo rack added a hilift mount and a 4 corner light tab, also put some tubserts to pop top rail off for easy packing.

just have to add front wind plate..

through some sliders on so they could get painted up and re-installed..

Re: 2004 Tracker exploration rig build

since the front was mocked up we dismantled and did a bunchof welding..

rad found a new home at the bottom again..

    front suspension pockets..

splashed some imron paint on it and started bolting things back in,need to cut out front tube since we tied frame in agian in front..

back agian we added in some shocks, need to do e-brake cables, brake lines, and viair system, exhaust.

got most of that list in the back finished now..

running out of room but were able to mount it all under the floor to save room on the inside..

Re: 2004 Tracker exploration rig build

still need to get drive shafts sorted out and a couple other things but decided to start on some bumpers..

bouncing back and forth, switches and air tank gauge in the dash.

    swing away almost finished..

lots of metal finishing to do still.

front one coming together at the same time..

incorporated a front skid plate for the rad into it also..

    mounted the led light bar.

finally got taken out of the shop for a test drive but back on hoist, we made a 2 piece drive shaft for the rear for the slip in the t-case with a steady bearing but this way was not very happy, after hours of trying to tune it out for a better feel ( drive line vibration) we scraped the custom d-shaft and but our own slip yoke eliminator and had a new single piece with a old school hi angle cv shaft made and made a world of differance.. this pic is of the locker solinoids and quick coupler for air system.
