the jeep will have more aftermarket support for mods and such
1951 willy's army jeep with 50 cal machine gun. (Father/Son project)
1978 chevy 3/4ton 4x4, built 454, np205, 2.5inch lift with 35's
1992 Ford Ranger - 3.73's, cb radio, warn hubs, custom BC pinstripes
2004 honda crf250x - tight trail secert weapon
thanks for the info, I was looking at the tracker because it was built on a truck frame, does the jeep have a simular frame?
im pretty sure that the jeep liberty is front wheel drive.. untill you lock it into 4. its not rear wheel. its got a goofy tcase/tranny setup.
my $0.02
Liberty has a regular 4wd transfer case. Rear drive until you engage 4wd then it's locked in
The liberty is basically a Cherokee with ifs. Both are solid weekend warrior platforms in my opinion. Gears and lockers the liberty has an advantage with, as Cherokee stuff fits. The tracker gets better milage, and I believe is more reliable on the small things. The liberty will out tow it however. The tracker, the front end is a little weak if you are planning on bigger than 30" tires.
31's on the tracker MAX. (with stock IFS)
Lift can be done cheap.
Jeep Liberty, no idea.
I love my Suzuki's. Owned lifted trackers, lifted newer grand vitara and my solid axle xl-7 .![]()

I can get a lift kit for my Sidekick out of the US for $179.
Personally I dont like the 16v Trackers, the 8v Engine is bullet proof. My 92 drove from Nanaimo to Comox Airbase on 2 cyl, @ 130kph. I would love to see a Jeep get 100ft on 2 cyl.
PROJECT: 1992 Chevy Tracker 4x4: 1.6L 8 valve EFI 5spd. stock (for now). Has 2 blown valves. "new" engine bought on June 2.
DD: 1995 Geo Metro 1.3L i4 5spd roughly 45/50mpg highway.
previous: 1992 Mazda MPV 4x4. "The Billy Goat"
I won't say anything to defend the v6 in the liberty, as I just don't know, and i hate to start a blank vs blank pointless fight, but the 4.0L jeep motor is one of the toughest motors on the planet. Period. The suzukis like what seems like most Japanese motors, if they even seem to get hot, or for no reason even sometimes it's a head gasket gone.
IF you have ever seen an 8V they're the most over built motor I have ever worked on, You have to be really special to warp an 8v head. Hell even blowing a head gasket takes extreme talent.I won't say anything to defend the v6 in the liberty, as I just don't know, and i hate to start a blank vs blank pointless fight, but the 4.0L jeep motor is one of the toughest motors on the planet. For the price, screw the older trackers they are overpriced, gutless and not enough room. Been there owned them, put headers and high torque cam in them, still gutless.
2.0L / 2.5L and 2.7L is where its at. 99+ (key to the 2.5 and 2.7 are synthetic oil to keep the timing chain tensioner happy)
Don't be afraid of the automatics, they are a dream to wheel with![]()

Tracker for sure..
My friend has a 04 Grand Vit, no lift and 30" and it does quite a bit of trails with that
07 Taco, 3" lift, 33"s
Tracker 8" lift, locked,winch, 34"s (sold)
I had an 01 4 door tracker. 2.0L. Nice ride. Much better than the 1.6. I had 235/75/15's on it. Got around decent for sure. Good milage. I'd recommend one. The liberty isn't a bad ride either though. Both sort of sleeper rigs, or somewhat underrated in my opinion
Liberty's do not come with a 4.0L. They are availible with the 3.7L V6.
CB is on Ch. 4
I own a '95 Suzuki Sidekick 4 door that has 144,000 plus miles on the odometer. I traded up from a '95 Tracker 2 door that had 194,000 plus on it when I sold it. It ran terrific. It sported a 2" suspension lift, rock sliders, 235-75-15 BFG KO tires and it was an offroad warrior. It was a bit slow on the hwy. But, as an all around DD it was terrific. I think a 02-4 with the larger engine would be great. MTG
