    4runner 4"+ suspension lift kits.

So I did a 2" suspension lift on my runner about a month ago, i installed coil spacers in the rear and ball joint spacers in the front. However, I wanna go a bit higher.

I've looked at numerous lift kits, and seems that generally they include longer shocks, bump stop extenders, longer sway bar links, drop downs for the front diff and control arm brackets, as well as new rear control arms.

I can make up most of the components in the kit, with the exception of the front spindle adapters, you could in theory use ball joint spacers double stacked to get the 4" space you need, but your tie rods wouldnt be corrected. How high can you go with the factory tie rod ends? or is their another alternative to raising the tie rod bracket? Can you drop the steering to accomidate?

If someone had a lift kit off a truck they're waiting to install, id pay them if I could swing by their place and measure up all their parts.

Let me know what you guys know or if you have any links to other guys building their own lift kits. I appreciate it.

Anyone know what it takes to convert to leaf springs in the rear?

with the abundance and low cost of solid axle kits these days those IFS lifts are starting to come up very frequently and selling for cheap. the last truck i SAS'ed had an IFS lift in it and i sold it for $300 complete with the 4.56 geared front diff. And i've seen them sell for alot less than that.

be patient and wait for a lift to come up for sale used and snag it... then you get proper knuckle spacers with raised steering arms.

last thing you want to be doing is stacking ball joint spacers, and mickey mousing yourself some home brew 4" dropped steering raised tie rod bracket suspension.

numerous bigger lift kits include all that stuff because umm...they need it. what you're wanting to do is suicide. there is often a drop bracket lift for sale here...so keep an eye out in the for sale section. if you just want to go higher for the sake of going higher for looks and not because your 2" lift is limiting the off roading you do...put in a 1 or 1.5" body lift. it will allow you to clear bigger tires on the cheap and give you the higher look you want.

dont go adding janky home brewed suspension/steering components just to go higher. you'll end up in scary steering threads and sites like these

and a rear leaf conversion is relatively simple. or pay taran at big country customs to do it for ya

I dont wanna go high for looks, i actually wanna wheel. Nothing would be home brewed / "janky". I work in a fab shop everything I do is CNC cut/plasma/formed/welded properly.

As far as rear leaf conversion, what kinda leafs should I be looking to scavange/buy?

Anything that works, you can use junkyard specials used toyota lift leafs, lots of people use really long chevys from half ton mid 90's pickups. my personal favorate are 52" chevys from an s10 they flex like noones buisness, ride like a caddilac and arent stupid long like the 60+inch ones from half tons.

you can also buy the trailgear rear leaf kit from BCC for a very reasonable price. it uses 56" leafs.

You would probably get a couple lengths of high grade round rod, thread the ends and bend them yourself.

Do you know if you can buy new OEM leafs for cheap? Ie, does beck arnley make a cheap OEM replacement you can just pickup at lordco?

And last question, do you lop off the TC rod brackets to go to leafs?

yes cut them off on the frame side, for the axle i'd just switch your axles and 3rd member into a leafsprung rear housing from an IFS pickup, probably easier than cutting and grinding and welding on spring pads.

Ah, sounds like Ill just keep my eyes open for someone doing a part out job. I dont have any time to get to junk yards. Might end up being cheaper to just get an actual lift kit.

thats what i would suggest if your only going up 4" and are planning on keeping the IFS out front for now, then find a used lift from a coil sprung 4-runner and leave it at that. would probably be the easier and cheaper route.

what about a pair of landcruiser coils for the rear. im currently running ome 901 coils in the rear that give 2 inches of lift over stock.with the coil spacers you got 4" in the rear, maybe a torsion bar tweak to bring up the front a little bit and roll with it. i do have a 2" bodylift for a 90-95 4runner up for sale as well.

Re: 4runner 4"+ suspension lift kits.

What do you have for upgrades on your truck now. Do you have any lockers yet or bumpers? I would save the money and put a locker in. You'll go 100x further with that than what the lift will offer you.

You said you want to wheel...so I would say spend your money on things that will make you wheel better.

You work at a fab shop....I wouldn't spend a dime on your IFS suspension because as soon as you start wheelin and wanting to go bigger tires you are going to want to solid axle swap you truck and then you'll be the one selling your expensive IFS lift kit on the cheap.....but if you find one for cheap and have your lockers, bumpers, winch, no harm in that I guess.
