Its a nice lake for swimming in

I'm kind of tired today though. The worst part is the cut in my big toe from the broken bottles on the rocks.

Dan + rakes = more hurt.

Good work on trying to get her out guys. And Dan, good to see you overcome your fear of water, especially in those conditions.

4lo - Thanks for calling the proper authorities Steve. As already said, you have no need to apologize for doing so, it was the right thing to do.

Tmax - I'm down for Saturday.

The government folk may need a hand getting in there too.

So out of curiosity I called enquirey BC who gave me a number for emergency spills. They said that we shouldn't be trying to recover the vehicle as they'll send someone out to contain it, remove any other fluids, and then mount a proper recovery.

Re: sunrise lake needs your help

yeah it was pretty nuts. The fact that they were able to just wrap the cable around the axle like that by sheer luck is amazing.... without that nothing would've been accomplished at all.

The trip didn't get the vehicle out, but we sure moved it a lot closer to shore and into shallower water. We had the front end out of the water, but there was nothing to rest it on, so when we let the pressure off it slid back some. The next group who goes up should have no trouble hooking up to it. The only problem is, dragging it up the cliff face will be TOUGH!

i've got some shots of the recovery, i'll post them up later today when i have more time.

As Mike suggested should this not be coordinated with with whatever ministry needs to be involved... As well intentioned as everyone is, I can easly see us getting scorned over going at this alone....

Also, did anyone confirm that there were no bodies?

I'm not 100% certain, but over on another board someone works with the owners Dad and the kid was quoted as saying the following:

'suppostly he was ontop of the rock and was having issues with putting it in park. Put the ebrake on got out brake failed and went right into the lake.

If there's a SS little BQQ in it thats the truck.'

The guy who may or may not work with the owners Dad is giving him the gears about just walking away from it.

Re: sunrise lake needs your help

    Questions.....

Who is in command of the 4WDABC while Steve is away?

Is anybody in direct communication with the government body that will be cleaning up the oil?

When will they be up there?

Do they need assistance getting to the lake?

If a crew of wheelers is going up on Saturday to extract the truck from the lake, we should keep it to the trucks that will be needed to to the work so it doesn't get to "crammed" at the lake. Welcome the the Sunrise Lake Parking Lot......$5 please.

Re: sunrise lake needs your help

    Here's some of my pics:

The jeep is still upside down, but it is closer to shore.... No attempt was made to check if there was a body in it or not. Dan's not a strong swimmer, and i wasn't about to be the 3rd person covered in oil and gasoline. Also, no BBQ was found, but there was an assortment of granola bars that floated out of the window when we flipped it over lol

If the second recovery takes place on Saturday, definitely limit access to sunrise. The parking up there is limited and the recovery crew will need space to work in.

IMO, cables will be needed to secure the winching vehicles to a tree or to one another for sure. It's angled downhill and that bugger is coming up a steep cliff!

If this is left up to the government to pull out, i really dont see it happening any time soon. What capable truck do they have that can get up there and one which you don't have to wait for months to be available? Hmmm ... they could always send a helicopter
