Campbell River usage conflict

Some folks on my local mountain bike forum (nsmb.com) are voicing concerns over a potential land usage conflict in the Campbell River area. Could one of you take a look at the post and see if there's anything out of line here? They're pointing fingers at four wheelers.

As hiker nothing gets my panties in a bunch more then when I run across all the tracks left behind from moutain bike trails hacked into the woods -leading to errosion and a loss of the natural beauty that i go hiking for --------------------------------------



Yup -im being sarcastic here but this is a simple problem of each group thinking they arent doing anything wrong and dont like seeing other groups in the same area !


Its how to get along with each of the other users of the same land in a respectful way that will help to kep the areas open for all to enjoy !

Everyone who treads on forested land is potentially doing damage, whether it be purposely or unknowingly. However, mountain bikes and 4x4s do soooo little compared to the utter damage caused by clear cutting logging (and even then they're just doing a job as well).

Or how about the damage created by building homes and cities and factories that make our lives possible? People have to grow up and realize it is inevitable, but that doesn't mean outdoor usage shouldn't be done as responsibly as possible. And that means that everyone who shares the outdoors should try to be as gracious as possible with other users. The more we bicker and fight about minor issues the quicker stuff gets closed since thats the way gov't deals with conflict of interests. LR

Why do some of these guys ride bikes when they're already on high horses?

The bottom line is we all have to share the wilderness, and we the 4x4 segment of the users are the easiest to spot, and the quickest to do damage. So stick to the trail, and tread lightly.

Wheeling in a watershed?

Ok, that's not right. The mountain bikers might be on to something if that is the case.

Although, I would have thought in a watershed all activity would be restricted. The last thing I would want to think of as I drink a glass of water is all the mountain biker piss being washed into the reservoir no matter how diluted it is....

Then why is there a highway, campsites, Strahcona Park and a mine in the Campbell River watershed? I think you need to get out of the city and see some more of this world!

Not true. A watershed is the total area that collects water for a creek/river. We live in the watershed for the Fraser River. All of the logging roads around Harrison are in a watershed.

i find that one odd as alot of the local mountain bikers there that i know 4x4 alot too, we do over in Gold River too.

I guess I have the wrong word. What's the correct name for the land surrounding a water reservoir such as the one at Seymour, where access strictly is prohibited? That's what I thought a "watershed" was.

You have the right word and desteurm has the right definition. Most places don't have the luxury of restricting their water supply's watershed access. That's more a GVRD thing. Kelowna gets its water from Okanagan Lake. The Fraser River watershed is about 1/4 of BC.

After reading the post. And seeing my home town listed "Port Alberni BC, And the Car BBQ. I had about 45% in to those. Good old fire burns out at woodwards pit. But Back to the post on t he mtn bike form, I have to say the Members Over there Need to Get there Seats Out of there Spinkters. And quit Crying, My 4x4 trails some Bikers built these huge ****ing dirt jumps Wrecked some fish rivers and everything see ME complaining No. We make the trails for you to ride in , We are not wrecking anything just turnign the Dirt. Soil needs to be turned to replenish the O2. And the Garbage thing, We 4x4 bring Our Beer cans home thats another days wheeling for gas. You Mtn bikers leave all your Lunch bags all over the ****ing place looks Like Uvic on 420 with all the Baggies, They Must choke out animals. As plastic dosn't compose, So Live and let learn Bikes Or Beware Of my TSL It might have Missile for YOU!!!

Some of our best wheeling trails are in the cities water shed. Here, there are a few guys that make trails, they join old overgrown ROADS that the hikers have made hiking trails on.....ONCE A ROAD, ALWAYS AROAD! is what I tell everyone that looks at us 4wheelers badly or says anything negative about us. The trail making is a bit of a grey area as we don't want to damage the enviroment anymore than we have to, but having a circule route from one road to another is sure nice. Creeks we all know about those....keep out. Bottom line is like someone said, we all have to learn to get along or the ****s in Victoria will fix it for ALL of us.
