I have used Nationwide, they usually have a coupon in those annoying flyer packets in the mail.

whoever you use ask if they have a truck mounted system. alot of the yahoos out there will come in and vacuum the ducts out. something you could do yourself. eveen thoughit is totally useless. what you want to look for is a large truck(ours was a 10 ton) with a large mounted unit. the technicians shoud mount a large hose directly to the central furnace. they should have to unbolt a few things to do it. they should then cover all the duct openings in the house(we just used cardboard) to block the suction. with the suction turned on they should then use compressed air at every duct opening to loosen all the crap that collects there. we used to pull out all sorts of crap out of them. oh yeah...anything they find in the ducts...they get to keep.:laugh unless it;s a dead rat in the burner. that was gross. the guy couldn't figure out why his furnace stank every time he fired it up.:redneck

sorry for the long post but i'm sick of seeing people getting ripped off for a poorly done job.

I agree with haloone.

I hired a duct cleaning service through The Bay. A guy showed up with a shop vac with a little twirly thing on the end. His hose wasn't even long enough to go to the end of the ducts.

When he left I felt total burned. I could have done the same thing myself for free. Plus he way over charged for a washable furnace filter. I returned the filter and picked up the same thing at Rona for 1/4 of the cost.

Next time I will be asking the company if they do it the same way haloone mentioned. Thanks for the info.

Whoever you choose check them out with better business bureau. Always a good idea.

Not to steal this thread, I'm also looking at getting my furnace cleaned.. so many reno's and a lot of drywall dust fell into them (stupid me, didn't cover them while we were doing the reno's). Anyway, the cheapest quote we got was for $225... this house is super tiny (you could almost classify it as a cabin, 900sqft).

Is $225 a reasonable price?

I paid around that for my place ~1100 sqft~

The guy had a huge truck like mentioned and did a steam type of cleaning. After that he sprayed everything with an anti bacterial mist.
