I am getting a set of 77 waggy axles, using the reard d44 for sure but the front is a passenger side drop, anyone know if there is a t case that will bolt to my tranny for this application. it's an 88 yj with the 4.2l. Thanks a lot

I thought most waggys and fullsize jeeps were driver side diff... ive never seen a passenger side diff under any of the ones ive ever seen. most of the ons ive ever seen were from the early 70s to the mid 80's *shrugs* maybe theres some weird ones I missed

i think the switch from pass. drop to drivers was around 1980.
that would definatly be te cheapest route.
otherwise you could adapt a D300 t-case for pass drop..

a dana 300 t case would work for your aplication but i am not sure what is needed to bolt it up to the transmission and the 80 - 89 wagoneer had the drivers side drop d44 front axle

Dan...I'm interested in the Dana 44 does it have axles too, or just an empty housing? I'm looking for a donor for the front of my YJ. I heard there are narrow and wide track fronts too...any idea which one?
Thanx!

Youd have to take everything out of your housing, and put it in the other housing.
I heard a rumour though that the short side shaft is a different length between drivers side and passenger side pumkins, you'd have to check on that.
I have three sets of shafts, now I better go see which ones I have a pair of and build the housing to match.

The swith date in the wagoneer was 1984, and unfortunatly, the shaft lengths are a little bit different from the passanger side drop to the drivers side drop. So swapping all the parts from the one you have into the other style housing won't work for the shaft lengths, everything else would fit.
The dana 300 transfer case will bolt right in place of the NP 231 if you have the 6cyl. The dana 300 case is from a 1980 to 1986 jeep CJ... they usually run around $200 to $250 used. Some people would almost give away a front waggy differential if you find the right person. Personally, since you want the dana 44 front end, and you have to put it in still... i would just get a different front diff... otherwise you have to change a t-case and front diff. Not only that... but when you go hog wild and decide you need a dana 60 in the front... the ford ones seem easier to find then the chevy/dodge dana 60's ;)
