View Full Version : Softening the Skyjacker Softride...

Hey all,

When I was first building up my yota, I decided upon the Skyjacker softride 5" suspension system.

Big mistake, these springs dont even move... I get about 6" of front wheel flex before a back wheel comes off the ground... I thought I would Give them a couple months to "break in", nada... I now get 7" of flex (after 5 months) and my ass is getting sore because of all the vibration.

Anyways, Is anyone else running this kit? Im told that you can remove the main leaf or something to soften them up alot?

But then again I'm thinking of just selling the kit and doing a chevy or waggy swap, problem is i cant seem to find and "real" information about how much lift these swaps provide, every ewebsite I've been to say's different...

I'm running 35" BFG's, 5" of susp. lift just clears them and gives me a little flex room... Im guessing that If I was to do one of these swaps I wouldwant to be looking for more like 7" so that I have a little room to stuff those meats in the fenderwell's...

Anyone wanna help me out? Thanks alot!

I've got the 6" skyjackers, what I just did was I took out the overload spring in the rear and the smallest spring in the front, haven't had a chance to wheel on it yet but on the street I notice that it is much softer. It's a couple hours of work but it is well worth it.

did the springs settle down / droop much after you removed those leafs? Im seriously thinking about selling them and then putting in Chev's or waggies...

Has anyone experienced spring breakage when removing leaves? I have heard this is quite common. Personally I have done it to two packs now and have wheeled the snot out of them without any problem but I hear it often.

Hey Will, do you remember what kind of spring it was or was it homebuilt?
