What oil filter?

My truck didn't come with a manual.

It's a 1995 with a 3 litre V6.

What oil filters do you recommend? I want one with an anti back drain valve.

How much oil does it take for an oil change?

What is the km schedule for lubing the front end?

Great quality oil filter at a good price...NAPA Gold (aka WIX). I refuse to put FRAM (or any other brands that are made by FRAM but branded something else) crap in my truck.

Read this "study" on oil filters...very interesting how different some brands are and the quality of their build and how much filtering media is actually in there:

The manual states:

change oil every 3 months or 6,000 kms.

capacity with filter 3.5 litres, 3.0 litres without filter.

I don't know about the check valve question. There are filter relocator kits that run a ford truck filter. This makes for a easier to reach filter, less mess, and more oil capacity.

I lube every month or so, more often if I'm driving though water.

You should know that the timing belt needs to be replaced at 160,000 kms. Earlier models were 96,000 kms.

I thought I remember the oil capacity being larger than that in my 1990 which would have the same engine? Seemed closer to 4L and 4.5L with a filter change.

These engines never held alot of oil because the oilpan has to fit around the front diff.

I agree with allstone. Napa Gold (unless you want to fork over $$ for an AMSOil filter) are the best for the dollar. Fram are crap.

Anything and everything you'd want to know about oil and filtering can be found here:

After reading and researching everything I possibly could, I now use Napa (Wix) Gold air and oil filters in both my Pathy and my wife's Jetta GT.
