I have a Magellan Sportrac and have installed Ozi Explorer and all the maps I need. Ozi works great and the GPS works great but I cant upload ANYTHING into the GPS, waypoints or routes. I have the baud rate set at 9600 and NMEA set at v2.1. I tried different baud rates and NMEA settings and nothing seems to work. I am using the serial port on my computer.
Anyone got any ideas??

Last night I checked the port settings and adjusted them to the same baud etc. as Ozi and the GPS. The port seems to be working OK but Ozi gives me a "cannot get GPS version" error.
I will try contact Magellan today.
Any ideas, anyone?

Belay that last request! It seems my Sportrac doesn't support direct uploads from Ozi.
Does anyone know of a good 3rd party upload program?

I'm surprised that Ozi doesn't support your Magellan. I know it supports some Magellans. Of course, your GPS should NOT be in NMEA mode. It needs to be in its native data xfer mode (ie: on my Garmin, it needs to be in Garmin-to-Garmin mode).

In fact, their website states:
This is the official web site for the OziExplorer GPS Mapping Software which will work with Magellan, Garmin, Lowrance, Eagle, Brunton/Silva and MLR GPS receivers for the upload/download of waypoints, routes and tracks and most brand of GPS receivers for real time tracking of GPS position (Moving Map).

NMEA is a one-way protocol where the GPS continually sends generic current position info to whatever it is attached to.

Hi Lars!
I knew if I yelled for help into the GPS wilderness you would hear me eventually!:D

Of course, your GPS should NOT be in NMEA mode.
Errr, OK. I didn't try turning that off, I just tried the different versions. I'll try that tonite.
Magellan wasn't much help. They want to sell me the Datasend cd/ROM with all the "points of interest" on it. I'm not really interested in the location of all the Holiday Inns in the U.S.!
I found this link:

Apparently this is the same thing in shareware. Ever heard of this?
This works for the GPS 315 and GPS 320 but should work for my Sportrac as well.
Have you done any geocaching?

Nope, but it's free so you might as well try it.

Yep. It's a good way to make those "quality time" walks more interesting (and geeky).

Well, I figured out what I was doing wrong. I had the parity set incorrectly in the Ozi configuration. Corrected it and now I'm in business.
I gotta say that Christine at the Magellan help line was awesome. She was very patient and had no attitude at all. She even answered my questions about Ozi!!

BumpNSpin, why are you using DataSend if you have Ozi? Don't they do the same thing? Isn't DataSend just a waypoint management program?

datasend has alot of the logging roads.. major and minor plus all the streets in Canada (if you get the Candian ver). I can load up my magellan with these street maps and i can see where they are and where i am on my gps... and what is coming up!

Ozi is a picture map not a vector map... you cannot load this into the Magellan... you can use a laptop and track your position with a gps to software on the computer, but i prefer to carry the roads on my gps..

ozi is good for printing out the trails you can download from your gps... in 3d too

being able to see the roads is fantastic ;)
