3.90's as far as I know, I have an 81 with 4.27's(so I was told??), but I know for sure the stock ratios from79-83 were all 3.90 or 4.10's.

Not trying to be a dick by disagreeing, but I guess I am. Reading from an old issue of 4x4 Power it says 79-80 20R 4.37:1 and 3.90:1 for 81 22R. I heard someone say something about a code on the door once?

thanks mike, i will go with that. it seems that 4.37:1 has come up more than once now and i'm taking it as gossible. i plan to stay with this ratio to save a couple bucks. invest in double crawler kits with the stock 4-spd. and run a spool in the back with loc-rite in the front, 36inch swampers, and to finish out with 78' wagoneer springs in the front and 88'chev 1/2 ton sprins in the rear. hopefully this will all work as this is my first toy project and it has to be low-buck project. paul
