I have a Ford Bronco with a C6 in it and was considering swaping the transmision out for a NP 435 w/NP 205 or something along that line. Would it be better to do this or would it be better to keep the C6 and swap just the transfer case to a NP205. http://www.bc4x4.com/ubb/smilies/cwm12.gif http://www.bc4x4.com/ubb/smilies/cwm20.gif

the np435 is lighter than the c6 auto,so it would be an improvement on gas mileage, the torque converter alone with fluid must weigh a few pounds....this will start the age old arguement of standard over auto, but the standard is a way better setup for wheelin,i have an auto bronco and a standard f250....the f250 tranny walks on the auto, but your biggest problem is the clutch petal, a bit of work ahead of you..good luck

Sorry to disagree, I've never weighed either one but I have one of each sitting in my garage and the C6 with its aluminum case as apposed to the 435 with its huge cast iron case is definatly easier to lift. http://www.bc4x4.com/ubb/smilies/cwm20.gif

Thanks for all the input. If you can me upto date on how the the C6 works compared to the NP435 as I am http://www.bc4x4.com/ubb/smilies/cwm17.gif trying to get my truck done before the end of the summer. It will depend on how quick I get my money from the goverment after they have laid me off a couple of years ago and I am still trying to get my money from them. http://www.bc4x4.com/ubb/smilies/cwm35.gif

How the c6 to the np435 works. Its like apples to oranges. the c6 is automatic, the np435 is standard. The np435 is super stout & has a 6.69:1 first gear. I think correct me if im wrong someone. But the c6 is something like 2.75:1 or 2.55:1 first gear im not sure.

The c6 is the strongest auto trannie for early model fords that I know of.

The np435, due to its really low first gear. It is basically a 3speed trannie on the road. Hope this helps and, If anyone would like to add more to this please do.

the 4sp np435 is a tough durable and very reliable tranny, and its rocks offroad, not the best if it strictly for fulltime street use though, like matt said, its basically a three speed on the pavement, first gear is only good for wheelin, which i use all the time...the c6 is a another very tough and reliable tranny, either one is great, but in my opinion auto's suck offroad, with a 4 spd you can rock your self out and switch to 1st and reverse real quick, where as a auto you have to wait for the revs to come down or have the risk of hurting something if you slam it into gear, also a standard will hold the speed while going downhill and save your brakes, where with an auto you are constantly braking, this is the case in my bronco, when i come off of eagle ridge, my brakes are near fried by the time i hit the bottom, and my 4sp in my f250 i have nice cool brakes...there are other reasons which i am sure will be said, cause the standard vs. auto war is a long and bitter debate...lol
