Looks like all of the locals DNF'd unfortunately. Tom texted me that the Warner Bros broke a front output on their tcase so that ended their day.

Probably going down with a buddy who is competing next year. After 3 yrs in the building, he should be ready next year!!!!!

I don't normally take time off in Feb because it is a busy time for work, but going to budget for next year.

Warners broke a lower link bolt, front diff, cracked the case to the atlas and broke one rear axle shaft. Poor dave had to pull winch line for 3 miles and they made it into the main pit with 1 wheel drive. We tried to swap a borrowed atlas in the main pit, but the flange was the wrong pattern. Always next year!

Just found this Youtube vid, this is some crazy sh1t !!! Can't believe how many spectators there are and how close they are to the action. What a gong show.

That first vid is from exactly where I was on sledge hammer... great action. Shannon got stuck initially, pulled out the cable but then got through without using it.

we were higher up but got a few decent pics of the action

definitely a gong show but the only injury I saw was from falling rocks that spectators dislodged from above

Looking at those pics, I'm wondering why they even have media passes if they're letting everyone stand right by the trail, like a spectators at a European rally?

wow...that looks gnarly. too bad for the locals...but thats rock racin for ya. better luck next year! some of the spectators are very close, the clip of the 2 buggies literally on top of each other...KOH must have some huge insurance coverage.

Wil and Larry,
I think we have about 500+ pics on your camera. Jeff (keoke) did a wicked job keeping the shutter snapping in between things.

Note to folks thinking about going down to compete. Can't say enough about prep. We thought we had done enough and enough was not enough. Wheeling hammer trails is enough to break most rigs. Racing hammer trails guarrantees breakage. Unfrotunately we broke and Dave and Curty did their best to bring it home to Main pit with enough time for the fixes.

We had spares for everything, lots of guys in every pit and tight pit setups with complete tools but in the end the parts didn't fit right and it ended the day. Need to ensure you've got the right stuff and it is ready to go (ala Shannon campbell -- swap a tranny in the race taking only 1.5 hours).

I also recomend tagging an extra day on post race. We were packing the night of the race so we could hit our race course clean up mile to bust home on Saturday. Too much and needed a break. We worked every night until atleast midnight and were up at 8 wrenching and working/prepping every day. The only time we took off was to see some fo the LCQ day one and to watchJoey on day two. Definitely not a vacation! :whiteflag: :laugh

I'll be back next year in some capacity. :welder

Looking forward to seeing those pics Shogunator! Word on the street is that the Warners really benefited from an excellent Crew Chief and excellent Crew working on the race car. Kudos to you all for working your hearts out.

I have to say that from day one when Doug and I arrived, we observed the crew working none stop. Everyone in the warners pit was very busy prepping the car in some capacities or another. I was amazed at the work ethic of everyone and my hat goes off to them All. I did feel guilty just ripping around the race course with curtis and dave on monday and tuesday and felt bad after cracking a knuckle on my rig which made curtis and dave think of upgrading to the Reid racing knuckles.
After a call to Wil at nsor from the middle of the desert, he had Reid racing brought out the knuckles to the lakebed. This was totally amazing to have the knuckles show up 24 hours later and the crew had them installed on the race car that night, i think they were up till 1230 am getting them done on the wednesday night. Crew chief Dave did an excellent job as well as all the others, jon, jeff, lance, artur, and I am sorry I can't remember the other names ' but ya know who you are and my hats off to ya for a good job :beer_cheers::beer_cheers:

Now that I'm home from out epic 46 hour straight drive home, I think I had fun down there.

A pile of thank you's go out to our team. We could not have done it without each one of you. Some had more fun than others. But you all stepped up and gave us the best chance to succeed we could have had.
The broken bolt was just one of those things that happen, it's part of what makes racing what it is.

Thanks to Wil for getting us those knuckles next day, that was awesome and hilarious.

Now who wants to try to go 300 miles without rocks this time? :popcorn
