Go to Beaverdell.
When you get to the General Store, turn left at the welding shop.
This will take you up Goat Mnt.
Since I was a kid I have been exploring these mines. I can still remember ore trucks coming down the road to the railway on the other side of town. Up untill 15 years ago alot of the area was locked off, but I had keys.
There were alot of buildings & even carts & tools left in the mines.
The mines were named the "Highland-Bell" mines. Named after Mr bell, the grandfather of my dads school days friend, Dave.
About 15 years ago the company that had rights to the mines desided to go up & either take out the buildings , or collapse them & cave in the noticable mines due to liability. In doing so, they also took down the gate on the roads.
I now wish i had mapped the mines & took stuff out of them.
About 3 kms up there is a main road to the left. Take it & stay to the main trail & always go right. You will pass alot of old building sites. Most of the buildings will be gone or fallen in now.
You will get to an old mill site , if you take the road to the right just before the mill, it will dead end at the top of the hill. Just keep going over the crest of the hill & there will be a road to the left. Follow it to a Tee in the road. There is a mine & old cabin at the tee. Turn left & follow it to a logged off area. To the left are a few mines & you will find a good tunnel on the left. If you climb around a while you will find alot of open slash mines as well.
If you go up the main road more, there is a good mine on the left about 2kms up from the first road. To the right is a mine that has shafts going into the mountain at different elevations. To the left of this mine is a tailings pile & a mine shaft that goes under the now main road.
Keep going up the main road to a fork in the road. To the left goes up to the old look out tower at Goat Mnt. If you park at this Y, go to the right in the bush & there is alot of open pit mines as well as some shafts once you get over the hill. Be careful as nothing is marked. Not a problem this time of year, but if you go up there during the summer, beware of plants growing in the forest as you may become a lead magnet:finger_1:
