So, here's the downlow, i have a 96 pathfinder 3.3l 5spd...I took it to aircare about 3 months ago and failed on nox.. so I took it to Nissan and they checked it and said everything is working fine 02 sensor egr...... the only thing we can't check is your cat which helps get rid of nox.... so they told me we gaureentee u pass if you get them done. Anyway after getting my 3 months insurance and saving up as munch money as i could i went down to midas to get a price assuming that they would be cheaper then nissans quote of $1800, they quoted me 950=1900 a side but offerd me good quality low km used cats and a very reduced price of 1000$ so being out of time and having not enough money fro new i went with the used ones, the results where my nox went from about 2 down to 1.5 but the limit is like 1.1 so i stilled failed? just wondering if anyone has any ideas to help me? my check engine light has come on twice in the last six months, but went out before i could get it checked? i also tried some fuel additive i got from crappy tire, but it did nothing? any suggestions could help,
Thanks sgt4x4

Thanks for reading my post i guess even if no one had an ideas. Just thought i'd let anyone intrested, what the problem was. It turns out my egr valve was working but the system was still failing do to a bad solniod and a second leaky valve of some sort, aprently my vechile was also running a bit rich, but after getting these to parts replaced, my egr system started working and my emisions drop considerable which is nice now that i can insure my car for the next two years without having to worry about air car. still a little anoyed that i might have spent a g on cats even though i didn't have 2 , but what can you do,at least these used ones should be could for awhile longer.

if your new cats brought your emissions down it helped no matter what, think about it that way ;)
mother nature is happy with you.
I'm on my way today to aircare my 4runner.. it has not been through or driven since 2003... wish me luck.

what dealer did you go too.... I am a nissan tech at abbotsford, and dont recall seeing the truck......if all readyness system are complete and active and there are no codes....you will pass....the only code you can get through aircare with is the knock senser code which wont even turn the light on.....almost all 3.3 with some mileage on them have a knock code.....including mine.....I have a 97 lifted 2.5 inches on only 31. 10.50....but hey it does what I need it to....hope that helps...

oh and if you used aftermarket cats, that could be the problem....there working enough to help and not turn on the light for a p420 or p430 code...B1- B2 cat codes...and most likely will do the job on a perfectly running engine, at least for a short period but if anything else isnt up to snuff they might not help out enough....

I took the pathfinder to jonkers in Langley, and well i think i have to agree with cpt spork, my emissions went down even if it wasn't the root cause of the problem if you read my second post you will see what the problem turned out to be, and that in my opinion the egr was faulty all along. I belieave the tech at midas said that he chcecked the solid and it apeared to read the right voltage on the voltage test(i think thats what is done to check the soliniod) but that it was still faulty. anyway whats done is done and my car insured and doesn't need air care for 2 years.
But on another note bogealot whered you get your lift kit from, i cant find much of anything out there except a 2inch lift from 4x4parts.com also, do you have suggestions on getting a bit more power out of my motor( i havn;t really seen any bolt ons out there.
Thanks sgt4x4
