Awesome Idea Sass, the Ford Expedition is a really versatile vehicle, classy yet built Ford Tough, surely a vehicle of this caliber deserves it's own room!

Can you give me examples of the types of topics that would appear in an Expedition forum?

Personally, I think 'Trail Talk' or even 'General 4x4' for the longer, more involved trips covers it. There's also a few other expedition sites that are designed purely for this matter.
This is my style of 'wheeling, I prefer doing the longer more scenic trips vs just going up to Stave and thrashing on my truck. It'd be an interesting addition to 'Trail Talk' [sub forum] but I honestly don't think enough of us really do any expedition-style treks to really justify it Sass. That being said, maybe its a good hint for us to start.. LR

topics could range from trip reports or planning to vehicle building and modification. diffrent areas of bc could also be disscused and explored.
examples would be such treads like:
http://bb.bc4x4.com/showthread.php?p=939726#post939726
or
http://bb.bc4x4.com/showthread.php?t=145573
even our whipsaw trips sorta fit in.
the reason for seperate section rather than the current is so persons in with that interest may browse the area and not have to skip over all kinds of other topics..
a vehicle build or mod section would be beneficial to all of us regarding camping or traveling in the woods for either short or longer trips.
pirate has an expedition room and the site expedition portal is a whole thing by itself but one aimed only for bc or locals here would be nicer.
lets face it. some of us are getting older and beating on the same V shaped rock is getting a little not so interesting. alos sooner or later, we may be forced to travel further in order to enjoy ourselves.

On there as well Cody !
But what Sass was thinking it would be nice to have a local board host a thread for this topic for local trips etc instead of relying on an international web board !

All good points Sass. I think that would be a good section.

Good idea Sass.
I've been cruising the portal for a while now and I find it intriguing. Multi-week, self sustained journeys through the wilds of Western Canada and Pacific Northwest would fit right in with the Trail Talk section. I have only been to the Canada chapter of EP once and it was quiet.
I like the idea that bc4x4.com is promoting the sport and our region, which in turn generates tourism thanks to the search engines. I think the back roads of BC are a huge untapped eco tourism resource for our province.:cwm30: Then we can charge the visitors more tax so I can pay even less.;)

90% of the trail talk section are areas within a 250Km radius of kits beach. Not that that is particularly bad but more a reflection of the majority of users on this board.
There should be a section dedicated to areas outside the lower mainland. This may encourage more participation from those living in other parts of the province.
Not so sure it should be called the expedition forum though. What might be a multi day adventure for those of us living in the lower mainland would be a humdrum day drive for the locals (cabin lake for example)

i would have to agree with that. every year I do a 2 week trip with my friends, traveling into the baren edges of this province. one section of this years trip is aprox 20hrs of 4 wheeling between gas stations! fuel cans are important!!!

There is a local Overland/Expedition forum. Its set up to focus on Canada and Overland travel (what most people in North America call Expedition). Its mostly BC people right now but its also a fairly new forum.
www.overlandcanada.com
There is also some RV content in there as well.

Though there are other sites, we are all here already, and if we are going to be just talking about BC then why not have it on BC4x4. Myself and others are really more interested in the real adventure backcountry trips, not the hut/stave/harrison trips or anywhere else you find redneck idiots.

yes one area that covers the whole bc is what i had in mind. i
by the way, a bit off topic buy i think we should all try to respect each other. reffering to others as redneck idiots is a bit disstastefull. we all have diffrent ideas and taste but that doesnt mean one is better than the other.

Got my vote!
Come on Larry, let's get it done before everyone signs up on overlandcanada, heck, even I signed up there now too, I'm sure we'll see you there soon too.
Or do we need to put this to a poll? . . . Seems to be the latest trend here.
We've done a lot of exploring in the last year, and would love to share some of the stories and pics here as well.

Ok, I'll make an Expeditions forum on the same level as Trail Talk (ie: not a sub-forum). But I'm wondering if we should have two sections beneath it: Expedition Gear; Expedition Destinations? Or just one forum to encompass all that stuff?
Also, should we have an Expedition Vehicle section or use Projects for that? Myself, I thinking that a vehicle section under Expeditions would be a good idea. What are your thoughts?
BTW, I'll break the news first here here: I'm going to sell my YJ and build a Cherokee so I can do more expedition-type 'wheeling. I want something that is comfortable enough to drive up to the Yukon and down to Baja. But I also want to be able to continue to do some of the hard trails. So it won't be a pure expedition vehicle (ie: I'm going for an auto transmission even though a manual would be better for true expedition 'wheeling). In any case, I'm sure I'll be using the new forum(s), too.

I do like having those three, though the "project" section could also have the gear included in it, being that any gear you setup for an expedition is usally a bit of a project (Cant always go to canadian tire and pick up exactly what you need)

imo for subforums:

Always interested in your feedback.
I decided on a minimal set of forums to keep the synergy strong. If the forums start getting really busy, I'll create addition forums to support and separate the traffic.

ok maybe one more request if its not too late. once we've done our spedition trips, can we also have seperate trip report section instead of folling the original tread. this may also work with regulare day trips.

I'm a little bit worried about it weakening the Trail Talk forum, but I do agree that it's a good idea. What to call it? Post Trips? Trip Reports? Hmm...Trip Reports might be good.

trail talk could just be trail talk. meaning its discussing either certain trails for what ever reason. this could range from difficlulty to types of destination or such topics like that.
trip reports would be for discussing what ever happened. maybe a single trip report section for what ever kinda activity would do. this would make it much more interesting and easier to look check out things.
you could also just break up trail talk into trip planning and trip reports.
maybe others can come up with a more simpler or efective way of doing this.

I would like to make "expedition" a little less lofty. IF you are traveling across Canada for the first time or going some where you have never been and plan on being gone for over a week into the unknown, it is an expedition. I think we should validate the spirt of the adventure rather then the " did it first ". Also it doesn't have to be the bush i find driving around LA a much bigger scarier Experience then any trail through the woods.
