Built in 1964 as hard cab firetruck in Germany, this Unimog 404.1 sat rarely used at a small airbase until it was imported to Canada in 1998 with 9700 original Kilometers. The Unimog had it's water pump equipment removed in Europe and arrived as a 2 seater hard cab. The original owner had a custom bed fabricated which articulates separately from the frame. I am the second owner of this Unimog.

The Unimog 404.1 was designed for rugged and demanding off road driving. I have climbed 60degree slopes, forded 4-5ft deep water obstacles, rock crawled up dry creek beds, recovered almost every type of domestic 4x4 truck, hauled trees and other debris off roads that are many orders of magnitude larger than the Unimog and more. Of course, anyone familiar with a Unimog is already aware of it's abilities.

Unique features on this Unimog:
+++++++++++++++++++++
- Custom rear light mounts which are protected from obstacles
- Custom bed which articulates separately from the frame
- 80L fuel cell (a second fuel tank could be added)
- 2 GreenLee tool boxes
- Continental MPT80 tires 36x10.5R20 (80% tread)
- Warn M12000 24v winch w/ remote switch(12' lead)
- Hella H4 24v 100/90w Halogens
- K&N Air filter
- Telescoping spotlight
- Full size spare tire
- 4 * Snow chains
- Heavy duty snatch block
- 5 point harness bucket seats
- Complete workshop manual in English
- Various maintenance parts (belts, oil filters, light bulbs, hoses etc...)

Common features found on Unimog 404.1:
+++++++++++++++++++++
- M180 engine (straight 6 - Gas)
- Transmission/Transfer case - 6 forward gears, 2 reverse (2 low, 4 high range)
- Protected drive shafts
- Portal axles
- Locking differentials
- Coil springs
- Drum brakes
- Ability to add crawler gears
- Ability to add PTO gears/shaft to power winch or other devices

Recent mechanical history, in summary:
+++++++++++++++++++++
- Rebuilt M180 engine (previous owner @ 38,000KM)
- Rebuilt Transmission, installed in 2008
- All hoses and belts replaced in 2008
- Electrical overhauled in 2007
- New batteries in 2006
- New spark plugs this year
- Fluids and filters replaced at least yearly

Current mechanical state, in summary:
+++++++++++++++++++++
- Hard cab is dented in many places due to heavy off road use
- Driver side door doesn't close because cab is bent. Passenger side is fine.
- Paint is peeling/flaked off on the cab
- Aesthetically, the hard cab is in rough shape. It is safe and perfectly fine for anyone who cares about functionality > looks.
- I have a replacement soft top cab which is in excellent shape, just haven't got around to doing the swap (hard cab condition is moot if you buy soft top cab too)
- Speedo, temperature and fuel capacity guages need to be replaced with electrical gauges

Other things to note:
+++++++++++++++++++++
- Fuel mileage is roughly 23L per 100KM (according to workshop manual)
- I experience about 450-500KM per full tank
- Recommended highway speed is 70-80KM/h, it can do up to 100KM/h on flat ground.
- I am not interested in trades, priced for quick sale
- The price is negotiable
- The Unimog is located in North Vancouver
- I would consider delivering the Unimog to remote locations or locally (separate cost)
- I have all mechanical receipts since I owned the Unimog and many from the original owner
- I have a excellent condition soft top cab which can be bought as well, price to be negotiated

Please call or email me if you're interested in buying and have a SERIOUS offer.

Thanks,
Chris @ 604-417-9873

Would you consider an off the road kinda worthy exploder for trade?

Unique features on this Exploder:
+++++++++++++++++++++
- Custom front bumper
- Custom suspension lift
- 75+L fuel tank(a second fuel tank like a jerry can could be added in the cargo area)
- 2 crappy tire tool bags
- Goodyear MTR 35 x12.5 r15(90% tread)
- no winch but I still have a remote switch(12' lead) & fairlead
that I forgot to return to Costco with the POS winch I bought there
- 4KC covered somekinda 7" off road light 100/90w Halogens
- new to me FRAM Air filter that lone ranger bought some time ago for his old ranger but gave to me
- No Telescoping spotlight
- Full size spare tire
- no Snow chains
- Heavy duty snatch block (oh yeah, something else I forgot to return..screw you champion power equipment)
- regular seatbelt 60/40 bucket seats
- Complete crappytire manual in English
- Various maintenance parts (belts, oil filters, light bulbs, hoses etc...)

Common features found on a '91 exploder POS:
+++++++++++++++++++++
- 4.0L
- Transmission/Transfer case - 4 forward gears, 1 reverse (1 low, 1 high range) when it wants to work
- rusty drive shafts
- axles
- LSD differential
- Coil springs
- Drum brakes
- Ability to crawler underneath it
- no Ability to add PTO gears/shaft to power winch or other devices

Recent mechanical history, in summary:
+++++++++++++++++++++
- Rebuilt 4.0L engine (previous owner @ 238,000KM)
- Refilled Transmission fluid, installed in 2008 that puked out after overheating
- All hoses and belts probably new from factory
- Electrical thouroughly washed by T-Max in 2007, now interior lights don't work and headlight switch burns out every 4 - 6 months
- New batterie in 2007
- factory spark plugs still there this year
- Oil and filter replaced at least yearly

Current mechanical state, in summary:
+++++++++++++++++++++
- SUV is rusted, dented & pin striped in many places due to heavy off road use
- Driver side door closes just fine. Passenger side is fine.
- Paint is peeling/flaked off on the roof & hood
- Aesthetically, the SUV is in rough shape. It is safe and perfectly fine for anyone who cares about functionality > looks.
- I have a replacement explorer which is in excellent shape if you hit up craigslist, just haven't got around to doing the swap
- gas gauge doesn't work, might be related to the T-Max wash or could just be kaput

Other things to note:
+++++++++++++++++++++
- Fuel mileage is roughly 28L per 100KM (according to my odometer as I said before, the gas gauge don't work)
- I experience about 300-350KM per full tank even more when the tranny doesn't engauge
- Recommended highway speed is 70-80KM/h, it can do up to 100KM/h on flat ground or going downhill with a strong tail wind and the tranny is cooperating. It can go even faster when hooked up to a tow truck, also gets waaay better gas mileage that way too
- I am interested in trades, priced for quick sale
- The price is negotiable
- The exploder is located in Burnaby, some of it in Surrey, and other bits in New West
- I would consider delivering the exploder to remote locations or locally (separate cost for flat deck service as it'll never make it there under it's own steam)
- I have no mechanical receipts since I owned the exploder as I find them to be a painful reminder as to how much I've spent on the pig
- I can make it an open top SUV which can be bought as well, price to be negotiated depending upon how many sawzall blades I go through

so, when do ya wanna do the swap? :D

Lol Mike... Unfortunately both of your doors are working. That is the deal breaker for me. Also, where am I suppose to mount the .50 cal? At least the Unimog has a turret in the roof!
