Anyone have any suggestions as to where we could crash for a night somewhere east or south of Calgary? We have a tent and looking for a campsite before heading south to return through the Crowsnest Pass. One more thing, any good malls in Calgary? Wife wants to do some shopping:help

LOL! Maybe the kids but not the two of us. Got into Calgary this afternoon, right into the middle of rush hour. Much better to drive in Alberta and northern BC than the lower mainland. They know how to build roads here and I didn't know my van could go so fast. Maybe I haven't run into the road ragers here yet but everyone seems to be pretty easy going about merging lanes.
After looking at all the diesel pickups roaring around here.......................I want one!
Tried to talk the wife into one while we were in Drumheller but got shot down pretty quick:(

welcome to calgary.
its different here, you would like it if you stayed here. weather is usually sunny, winter is nice if you like snow/skiing. Most people are good with the merging, but you always have to factor in the 1 in every 20 who do the good old 5 lane cutacross to exit, at the same as some frantic guy in a civic tries to merge onto the highway..
one thing that cracks me up here I see every day on deerfoot(main north south running freeway) is people will take the highway exit, wait at 2 traffic lights, then hit the highway onramp to get back onto the highway going the same direction.. Why they do this? because traffic seems to slow down just before the onramp, they think its a shortcut. What they dont realize traffic has to slow down to let all the extra cars back onto the freeway that took the 'shortcut.' If there werent more cars entering the onramp than it was designed for, then the whole highway wouldnt have to slow down to let them back on. The whole slowdown was basically started by a few lemmings I presume. I travel this route everyday at the same time, its usually the same people. I wonder why they cant figure it out and stay on the 4 lanes of highway, but no got to take the exit then wait at 2 lights, then merge back onto the freeway. Stupid albertans.
lots of nice big rig diesels around here, lots of pavement pounders, and Im still looking for that good camping/fishing spot so I cant help you there. Theres a few malls around, but Im not an expert on the subject of malls..

Hi kore. We spent some time on Deerfoot today and it went pretty good, traffic was always moving and then we heard over the radio that there was an accident behind us. I can see how that would really jam up traffic. Maybe it's because there are so many lanes on the highway that traffic keeps flowing. I've spent enough time on the lower mainland highways to appreciate being able to keep moving with so much traffic.
We're going to hit the C train tomorrow and see where we end up at. Then one more night and we head south and then back into the mountains. Yay!
