42 TSL is a better tire than the 44 TSL, just sayin'. 2 inches isn't much, unless you include the 2 inches the sidewalls stick out too..

how is a 42 a "better" tire?

the sam-87 (42x15.2) has a tread width of 13 inches. This means the sidewall sticks out 1~ inch on either side of the tire.
The sam-23, (42x15.30) has a tread width of 13 as well. meaning 1.15 inches stick out.
the 44 inch versons A) only come in 15 and 16.5 inch rims (no 16) are 14.4 inches wide at the tread and 17.5 inches wide at the sidewall, 1.5 inches stick out. (15 inch variant)
So a) they stick out more in the sidewall, that's not a bonus for me, and B) they weight about 20lbs more each per tire (25% heavier)..this is attributed to the wider tread of course but i'm, personally, comfortable with the slightly skinnier aspect to save that much weight.
Also I like 16 inch rims over 16.5 but I think that's everyone.
buuuut some people just like to say they have 44's right matt? ;)

44s are 18.5 and 19.5 wide giving your a larger contact patch to the ground to where a 42 only is only 15 wide.. bigger contact patch= better traction
