My sister and I were returning from an overnighter in the Elaho when we happened upon a guy and his young son, (Frank and Justin) who had run dry on the dad's trail bike at about the 35 mile point on the Squamish River Rd. I hooked up a tow strap and we began the slow trip back to the 21 mile bridge where he and his young son began there ill fated trip. after about an hour we finally reached his truck and he told me why he had run out of fuel.
Frank and his son were about to gas up when one of the other campers told them of a Jeep that had flew of a trail on it's way down to a grad party. This was at the beach area by the 21 mile bridge the night before. I had seen the gathering on my way up to the Elaho, there were alot of trucks and cars there, and pobably 30 tents.
I guess some kid and his buddy had a few bevies and took the wrong trail back to the camp site after a joy ride, so I was told later by bystanders, the kids were ok. This was something I had to see so after some heart felt hand shakes and loaded with Karma I went down the trail to see the brand new JK that had tried to fly.
5 minutes later there it was, it was a sad sight, it was pathetic, and it made me want to bitch slap the driver for being such an idiot.
Yup they took the wrong trail alright, missed the real trail by that much eh. The jeep had taken a sharp right about 10 feet to soon and ended up flying off the dirt into a small 5 or 6 ft gulley. One of the on lookers had asked me if I was there to tow it out, ya right I said after I stopped laughing, someone else said that BCAA was called and I started laughing again. The Jeep was up to it's axles in mud so the suction factor must have been huge, it was going to take more than a normal tow truck to extracate it from the mud.
The inside of the Jeep had been vandalized by way of fire works and someone said that the kids were being threatened earlier the previous night by some older kids. Regardless what the f__k were these idiots thinking. They were really lucky to walk away.
It looked like they or someone had tried to get it out by putting some STICKS under the wheels but I'm pretty sure that at least 2 of the shocks I could see were snapped and who knows what else was toast.
I just shrugged as I walked away, what a waste, maybe these were the same idiots who were driving in and out of the Cheakamus River a month before until I chased them off with the threat of being reported. The steelhead were spawning and these idiots were doing doughnuts in the shallows.
If anyone would like to post the few pics I have of the Jeep pm me and I'll email them to you. Robin
