All 78 Ford Bronco and F150 would have had a big bearing 31 spline model installed from factory!

Don't think so:read for the ford 9" you can only buy one type of 31 spline detroit locker for the ford 9" because you can adjust the carrier back and forth to accomodate the different gears. It has to be one of the best rear end designs of all time other than the low hanging pinion.

but the 8.8 you def would need a diff carrier.

I have 4.88 gears for the 9" and NO you do not need a new carrier unless the one you have is fried. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=STRK%3AMEUSX%3AIT&viewitem=&item=120304048731The 488's I have are US gear and are new. The unit shown has been disassembled so the gears are available for $250. These are the best $$ can buy
