A couple of old friends of mine have been recently diagnosed with Lyme disease, prob. caused by tick bites. They do not know each other, but both mentioned hiking in the Harrison West / Weaver creek area as the place they visited the most this year. Other than that, city parks etc..
I wheel ( and I'm sure most of you ) wheel in this area alot. They do not 'wheel' or atv/dirtbike , just hike. I was also told the Mission area has the most incidents of Lyme disease in the province ( is this true? ).
Anybody you know get/got this disease?? How common is it, are these guys just an unlucky pair? Reading up on it, this sh*t is nasty  and the ticks can be as small as 1mm .....yikes !!!
Bug spray that contains 'deet' is supposed to 'deter' them from chompin' on ya'.
I was under the impression that most of the deer ticks were in the interior, not so much on the coast/valley?

Not likely from the cabin in Tulameen. The interior ticks can make you sick but they are not carriers of lyme. People who get it in BC most likely get it from the Black Legged tic which inhabits the lower mainland and coast: http://www.agf.gov.bc.ca/cropprot/ticksbc.htm.

Ive had two incedents with ticks !
Once was at a summer camp on Anvil Island ( Howe Sound area) We were playing football when a buddie noticed what he thought was a piece of wood on my back ( I was on the skins team) He tried to brush it off but it wouldnt let go ! The head was already well burried !
Then many years later after a spring Bear hunt in the Spences Bridge area we were driving back on the canyon road when we stopped to eat at a restuarant just about at hope ! My hair was longer back then and I was runnin my hands through my hair to try to straighten it and felt something ! Pulled it off and sure enough a tick !
I sure wouldnt want to get that Lymes desease as it sure sounds like nasty stuff ! Hope your buddies do alright !

I used to go there every summer as a kid. Can't count how many ticks got me. Never got sick though.

Better not be from Tulameen !!
We spend much of our year there & hope to retire there in a few years.
I don't mind the bears and cougars but dammed if I'll put up with ticks. :laugh
My son tho' works out of Princeton chainsawing trees and he's always picking ticks out of his body. How they can even live on his beer soaked skin is beyond me.

I think I've had about 4 or 5 on me so far this year, mostly from Princeton/Allenby. Had a few about 4 years ago from hiking in Northern Ontario, a couple of the times involved them being on me for at least several hours - there again, never been sick. Lyme disease is supposed to be fairly rare, but yes, nasty none the less. LR
