OK, in the Forum list it said that there's some info on compressed air powered blenders in here, but none to be found. Anyone got some build info on these? I know it can't be that hard to make, but anyone's previous building advice of thesse would be great 'cause I'd love to make one quickly.

Um, take the base off a blender and figure out a way to attach an air drill to it? Maybe weld a screw driver bit to it?

Saw lots of guys in the Rubicon with this set up. 1/4" bit on a die grinder, fabbed up bracket on the side of the truck. Turn truck on, slide die grinder in... mmm... Margaritas. In those days most guys ran York compressors... die grinders are air hogs.

I am running a York compressor with a 10 gallon tank onboard so a die grinder might work quite well. Anyone done this?

i would find out what the correct rpm for a good blender is first. i thought about this last night and spinning a 20000 rpm might just make a huge mess. like lars said, an agled high speed drill might be the best bet

i thought one of these would make a great slurpee machine

I think a drill would be too slow. Blenders on puree generate a lot of rpm (and torque). You can pulse the die grinder to control speed. Here's some info I gleamed:

also made an air powered blender, I took the motor from a cheap harbor freight die grinder and fit it in a cheap electric blender with a quick connect on the side - it fit perfectly, it just took a couple of hose clamps to hold it. Plug it in to the mog and bingo - easy margaritas... The problem is the cheap die grinder motor takes a lot of air at 100+ psi, it'll empty my tanks really quick if the engine is not running and if you don't run an air motor hard they have very little power. I think the motor I have uses something like 7 or 9 cubic feet a minute but more expensive grinders use a lot less. Another thing to watch out for is the motor has so much torque it will crack the plastic casing.

How about this: http://www.drillblender.com/

Looking at this set up, you could probably use a Magic Bullet (yes, As Seen On TV) we have one on the counter, works great.

Or this: http://www.epinions.com/hmgd-review-3263-8FB91AE-3821D321-bd3

Not as cool though.

Found this on Pirates:
it's not rocket science. I've been running a 22,000 rpm blender for years. The only trick is to select the right blender. Look at all the bases and you will see a couple of variations. The one you want will accept a 1/4" socket extension in the base. Donate your favorite extension and slap it in a lathe, turn it down to 1/4" so it will fit in your 1/4" die grinder collet and start pumpin' out Margaritas and smoothies. It helps to have a York, air tank and the most efficient die grinder you can afford. Once the whirr of the blender sounds, ice and tequila usually show up...

and the original bar style metal oster blenders work fantastic and don't break. you might need a leather glove to hold the blender without getting frost bite.

A york at or just above idle and a 2gal tank can make non-stop margis.

Here's a pic of one:

Let me know when you get it set up, I prefer lime marg's.

Not trying to be a stick in the mudslide (:redneck), but why not just use an inverter to run a normal blender ?

My Oster blender only draws 425W, Crappy Tire sells Xantrex (msw) inverters for less than what I paid for the blender...

Or maybe figure out a way to run the distributor shaft up out of the cap and machine a 1/4" bit onto the end. The throttle controls speed and gives 'drinking and driving' a whole new meaning, lol ( or "driving me to drink" ?...)

hmmm. now that you mention it, air just sounds so borring. who's up to making a pto or better hydrolic powered blender?

Now you're talkin' !!
I was thinking about putting pulleys onto two of those Drillblenders and using the serp belt to drive em.
A Roots blender !?!

Dunno if I'll get to it, shakey. After all beer really is the perfect camping food...ok, and trout !

Kinda focussing on a gyro-stabilized cooler at the moment: I hate when my beer gets shaken up on the trail.

I see a whole new line of trail products here guys !

But to get back on topic, I notice in the pics that the mods are made to the blender's base. Why not hold the blender jar in one hand and the die grinder in the other - less junk to pack...Or is the goal to keep it looking like an otherwise normal blender ? A 'sleeper' so to speak.

Most blenders you buy for household consumption are Crap !

Why not build an ultimute mixer for the truck !

Sounds like you all drink on the trail way too much.

My blender is built in to the counter of the camper.

Have seen hand crank blenders at outdoors places. If you Google hand crank blenders on line I'm sure it will come up.:gotsearch:

OK, if some of you guys are dirt bikers you may have heard about this one. i guess about 8 years ago up in the lytton trails (monkeywrench) they have a hot tub and some other cool stuff out there. one thing was a bike powered blender. apparently it was like a dyno thing with a gearbox of some sort with a big vat attached to it. you'd just put the bike on it and get it into 5th gear then knock the blender into gear. from what i heard you could dump a 60 pounder along with all the ice and other stuff into the thing. its gone now but the legend still remains

Nobody asked for your opinion Dan. Besides... how are you supposed to reach that from the driver's seat?

just an idea for yall machinist type to think of... maybe something like an ac compressor thing that uses an electric clutch to engage that is belt driven but is basicly the base of a blender. just pop on the container thing and hit a switch to engage. could make a fortune selling them to the 4x4 community.
