Heres the deal. yeah its a truck but the milage is sh!t, I drive a 1989 Toyota pickup ext cab with some 31x10.5 mud terrains. its the 22-re engine. To a full tank i get MAX like max 400km i usually fill at 380 when its sitting at the empty line.. to a tank( city). (95$ to fill that baby) obviously talking to people fuel topic comes up and some times people say i get such poop fuel milage because i may need a new O2 sensor? any of u guys with the same truck or similar getting the same gas milage or whats the deal? any suggestions would be great. im gunna put some injector cleaner thro it to see if that makes any bit of difference (plus my idol is being wierd it will putt at random fires and throw the rpm from like 800 to 400/500rpm and wobble around for a sec) im stuck with no ideas

Seems normal to me. With my 91 Blazer I got about 350k to a 65 liter tank with a 4.3 v6 and with my 08 Colorado I get about 410k to a 60 liter tank with a 3.9L inline 5.

i have an 89 toy p/u extra cab with 33's on it and it's the 3.0l v6. i put in $45 and it gets 200 k. haven't filled it up in awhile but i only gotted 360k on a full tank.
mind you delivering pizza burns it up quick from stopping and starting and doin burnouts doesn't seem to help.

Sounds normal to me. I get 350 to 400 to a tank.

my truck gets 550kms to a tank (possibly more if the speedo/odo is on the low side which i suspect it is) and as much as 650 on the highway. i can't tell you what the secret is cuz it's always been that way for me, but here's what i've got
1992, 4x4-P/U, 22re, 5spd, 4.88, 33x9.5 BFG A/T, 190,xxx kms, 17xx kgs

seems low for a 22re. otherwise i would have no reason to be jealous (have a 3.0) is it auto? how do you drive it? grandpa or like a dirtbike? if your idle is wonky they you have no reason to check your milage. get that fixed and then we talk. something is obviously alittle messed.

5 speed non turbo. i use 87 octang. 4x4, 31" MT's, 271xxxkms, 1900kgs(says the dump as far as i can remember) drive it mostly younger grandpa. i dont drive it like a dirtbike because well.. its as slow as a rock. i dont drive it past 3100rpm so maybe the rpm drop is to much so it struggles a bit? if that makes n e difference? and yeahh i dont know how Sizzle is getting that much more (100ish kms) and hes even got 33s. i wonder if that 4.88 is helping. only thing i upgraded in the engine is just a k&n drop in air filter which should help even a tad. all i drive really drive is city.

I just put a 2 1/2 inch exhaust on mine and picked up a noticeable bit of extra hp and can now comfortably get 450 clicks to the tank, A 2.8 4 banger diesel though...
That's up by 50 clicks per fill.... Happy happy happy:)

I'm getting 400km a tank with a 3.4L and 33's, getting the same out of a 4cyl seems pretty low.

1994 4runner less then 80 000 on motor 22re solid axles 410 gear 35 inch procomps and I get 500 + - 50km on 55L I go for 91 octane or better
driving I usally shift at 4000 rpm seems to be better cruising at a higher rpm,

Daamn 500km city or highway? if city there has to be a problem with my truck if your running 35s and im running 31s. The octang of the gas wouldnt make fuel milage difference would it?

My old 1980 naturally carbed rig used to get about 20-22 mpg on the hwy, way less in the city.
I find city vs hwy driving makes a big difference. My cruiser gets about 500k max in city but about 700 on the hwy. [20 city 27 hwy]
A tune up with o2 sensor may make a differece. Tire pressure and the list of little things That will make a diff go on. It all adds up.
For the price of an o2 sensor why not give it a try.

That's well within the normal range for a 22RE driven in the city. Mud tires lower economy, so you actually are doing well. In the winter, my 22RE 4Runner gets 350km before the light comes on. One the highway in the summer, that number doubles.

Gen 3 trucks are quite a bit heavier than gen 1 and 2. US EPA figures for 1989 toyota 4x4 truck with 22re and 5 spd are: 17 mpg city and 20 Hwy. Their gallon is 3.78 litres. Fuel cost estimates are based on 45% highway driving, 55% city driving.

Go over to www.sparkplugs.com and grab an o2 sensor. I got my NGK direct replacment for over 150 bucks cheaper then local! Now I just need to get those bolts off so I can put it in.....
In anycase, thats pretty low for a 22re. Do a tune up, put a fresh o2 sensor in there, check your timing and go. Also, go slow! Accellerate slow and coast as much as you can.
as for me...
With a failing o2 sensor I get about 500km to a tank. Right about 18.5mpg.
91 pickup 5sp, 3vze, 4.88's and 33x12.50 muds. But I accellerate SLOW, shift at 2800, and I keep my high speed driving to a mininum. Our trucks are about as areodynamic as a brick wall!
Sizzlechest is running 33x9.50's If I were to toss those on my truck I would get a good chunk of extra milage. Pizza cutters are great for mpg's!

hmm well my 08 has the 4.0L auto and im getting around 380 to 400 per tank. $93.92 to fill up this morning.
Im running 33"s and stock gearing. and i drive it like i stole it. I drive through the gears and usually shift around 5grand. so i cant really complain about my mileage but a guy at work has the same truck and says he gets 400 driving it like a grandpa in richmond.
Hmm i shoulda done more research before buying this toyota cause my old s10 got closer to 500kms a tank and i was always told that toyotas get this great great gas mileage. my gas bill for last month was 1200 bucks. This is getting a little retarded.

I'm sure everyone is compensating for the odometer being wrong with larger tires, yes? Checking with a GPS?
Your fuel economy may be fine, it's your miles driven that could be incorrect.

with my 33"s i think my speedo/odometer is 10% and that 400kms is with my recalculation.

How long did it take after ordering it from sparkplugs.com?
I just did a tune up about 300kms ago so thats all done with but ill do the o2 sensor asap and check the timing. o2 sensor an easy switch or what kinda time am i lookin at. (never done it before)

I have found that my '84 with a 22r, 4.10's and 35's gets better milage towing my boat in 3rd gear revvin about 3800 than it does in 4th gear empty at 3000 rpm.... Kinda strange, but my 5.29's just got here so lets see how they help me.... I figger it gets around 360-380 kms(uncorrected odo) to a tank. Thats mostly on the flat prairie, but we do have a couple hills here too....

I drive about 300-400 km in 5-7 days. To fill my jeep was $80 back when gas was $.98/L so now it would take about $100-110 (it's been in the driveway for a while cause I'm building a bumper, so I havent gassed up since the major price jump this spring). That money would only last 4 days (driving normally, fast accel, and hitting trails every night) I could stretch it to 7-8 though if i just drove it nicely to and from work, but wheres the fun in that, and I have done it when i was strapped on cash.
I spend $100 every 4 days on gas... thats $700/ month
considering i only make $1600/month that really hurts the pocket lol...
But hey It's what I love to do so I'm always happy to pay out of my ass. :beer_cheers:

Only if you have 4.56's, with 4.88's it should be pretty close to stock.

Well, I actually had a friend in the us order it and then she sent it to me via USPS so I could avoid any taxes at the border.
But a local buddy of mine placed an order with them, mind you it wasnt o2 sensors ( a set of NGK wires for each of our trucks) and they shipped quite fast. Very good prices! Alas, I cannot remember the actual time frame it took, but it was decent.

alot of people overlook their thermostat when it comes to bad gas mileage. a thermostat that causes the engine to run too cool will cause bad mileage due to the fact that it will run richer.
i change mine every couple of years because i've had enough sticky thermostats cause me problems. a thermostat that is stuck open and making the engine run cool can eventually get stuck closed and cause you much bigger problems.

when was your last full tuneup? diff/tranny/tcase fluid changes? cleaning out your maf..intake..etc. those help alot...as well as 02's. try to stick with factory parts, and synth fluids in your motor, diffs & tcase.
i'll be ordering a pair of O2's from sparkplugs.com also. for what id buy for ONE ome O2...i can get both front & rear from sparkplugs..shipping included. btw, i think they ship USPS for O2's..and it wasnt alot. under $20 i think.
apples to oranges, but im getting about 520 (corrected for tires etc) KM/tank. about 75%hwy. thats with about a 73L fill. light just coming on. a 5000lb tank with full time 4WD, auto, armour, and 35's on stock 4.10 gears. hopefully it will be a bit better with the new O2's and cats. my 98 4Runner was getting about 320 per tank with the 3.4L + auto.
