Looking for a place around coquitlam, burnaby area for a cb antenna, not one of the cheap canadian tire locations. I was told the "whip" types are the best? Is this true?

And, does the antenna have to be tuned or something to work properly??

Thanks again...

I'm happy with my K40 whip....sturdy, and can sure take a beating from trees/branches no problems.

You'll definitely want to tune it, or else you risk damaging your CB. This can easily be done by yourself if you have an SWR meter.

The K-40 or Larsen NMO are the 2 top choices.

North Shore Off-Road has them, if you want to drive across a bridge. :)

Make sure you GET the wee spring for the base of the antenna cause it will save it in the trees and bushes..

Larson or Maxrad. And yes, get the spring.

Almost all quality CB atennas will work the same for you, just find the one you like the most and looks best on your rig. For 4 wheeling I'd suggest a Cobra K40 since the mount both "clamps" and screws to the underside of the hood (base wraps around the edge of the hood), where as the Larson and Maxrad (what I use) use 3 screws and screw into your fender. The problem with these is that the screws tend to loosen up when dragging through trees, and albeit you can retighten the screws they will eventually enlage the holes (and being a SS base tack welding them to the fender's out of the question).

Spring mounts are only needed with fiberglass antennas. LR
