Ok, not sure if I can put this in here or not, if not let me know where, or maybe we need a spot so others can ask questions about automotive engine questions and poroblems they have....

Ok I have a 1992 mazda protegie.

1.6L

I have put new cap rotor plugs wire ect, full engine tune up.
Why I started doing so, was the thing ran rough...

So After doing all this it still runs rough, wtf.

So I check the oil for any milky sign, nope
check coolant all good, no boil over, no over heating. hmm

so now I start che cking to see if im getting spark all the way across yup.. ok compression test. 185 184 184 185 ok
so I look at plugs when they come out when doing comp, test. number 1 plug looks great,
number 2 plug um not so all cabond up but still ok for spark gap,
number 3 looks same as number 2 hmm
number 4 a ok, like number 1
odd
ok i put new plugs in run car runs like crap still
check plugs does same again, this time i swap carbon plugs with good plugs run and it turns out same, 2,3 plugs carbon up and 1 and 4 clean
so im confused,
I check fuel filter ok, check injectors now, change them runs bit better but still 2 and 3 all carbon up.

so now i take a can of carb and injector cleaner i take the nozel , stick it in a vacum hole on the intake side, car running, it runs a bit better but i still get a back fire through intake side,

And it still runs like crap

symptoms, it runs rough, stumbles. back fire through intake, and has no power, harsh nox unburned fuel...?

so now after playin around doing all this, i have the car running, I undo number 2 plug wire no change, I hnow undo number 3 plug wire still no change, hmm car runs on 2 cylinders, 1 and 4.
so I unplug number 2 and number 3 injectors so no raw fuel being dumped in and being wasted.

so my question after reading what i have done and sorceing out what is going on..
what do you think and what are your experiances
do you think its the head gasket gone, between the two cylinders where there is no oil or coolent and the compression is bouncing back and forth between each other ?

OR

do you think I might have two burnt out intake valves?

I Am amazed that the car starts up on 2 cyclinders 1 and 4 and runs,
I was told it was impossible for a 4 cyllinder engine to run on 2 cylinders, 3 yes it can be done but 2 hmmm

cheep on fuel if i may say hahaha.

so any thoughts or ideas or sugestions.:anyone:

I have orderd a head gasket. but If i dont have to do it id rather not...:gotsearch:

any help would be greatly apreciatede. email me or pm me or reply on here, thanks

this is a first for me. usually I can figure it out and not be so dumb founded , im amazed of the 2 cylnder running so strong, I can drive it like normal and do a 100 km with no prob, just a bit sluggish...

ps dont mind the crappy spelling, and such...

I know it's a dumb question...but were the 2 and 3 plug wires backwards?

Check to see if the plug wires are even getting power. If the injectors are giving it gas, and the spark plugs are getting power...then the only problem left is air.

:withstupid:

also do you have a vacum leak? are u sure the injectors are ok?

If you got that compression then it's not anything like timing, valves, ect...

I'd put money on your distributor or ECU, or maybe even something with your injectors..

If I was you, I'd check for spark on all 4 wires first... if it's a spark issue, replace your distributor..

if not try a diffrent ECU.. I've ran across a car that part of the ECU died and only ran two of the injectors. Once we replaced the ECU, BAM the car ran perfect.

Check the injector pulse with some noid lights and do a leakdown test on each cylinder.

If the car is using a distributorless ignition system in a wasted spark setup, it could be that you have a dead ignition coil.

You said in the beginning of your post that you replaced the plugs and then later said you replaced it when you did a compression test, I'm confused.
What is the timing set at, because the timing being bang on or out by a mile wont change compression. Did you cross the two centre plug wires?
Did you actually check for spark and if so how?
How many cliks on the motor, you may be do for a new timing belt.

Have you ever heard of Seafoam, you may want to try it, I believe I picked some up from Napa.

check your camshaft, you might be missing a lobe or 2.. exact same thing happened to be on my toyota
