I got a Pioneer sub from futureshop(never again) and its a Dual 4 ohm voice coil. Its got four wire connections on the side(2 pos, 2 neg) and i want to kno what kind of amp should i get? will a mono amp work, or is it a 2 channel amp i need? Becuz it has 4 connetions on the side i dont kno what to do.... i also bought a box at Visions, but it only has 2 wire connections on it. So i think i bought the wrong box.

HELP! lol

instructions?? what the hell are those??

I needed a 2 channel amp and 4 connecting ports on my box. So i bought the Pioneer 2 ch 1200W amp from visions for only $350(noramlly $500) and then went to the Source(aka Radio Shack) and picking up another 2 connectors and stuck them in the box.

and like that, she worked!

"Dual voice coil" is the laymans and marketing term for Bi-amped. Sounds cooler.

you could have used a single chanel amp and run the coils in series or parrallel for different resistance. In turn different resistance may allow your amp to produce more power output than rated. you should not use a 2 chanel amp which individual chanels powering the seperate coil leads, as you would than be sending different amplitude signals to the coil/s. You can however wire the coils corectly and bridge the 2 chanel amp accordingly.

i have a bridged 2 channel wired in series alpine type S. for the size it kicks..

best to bridge the 2 channel, less likely to mess up the sub.

Ummm, no... thats not what it means.

DVC means that it has 2 seperate coils in the speaker... it has nothing to*do with amplifiers.

my $0.02, but that setup is incorrect.

You run the dual voice coil sub on a single output. Monoblock block sub, or if you have a 2 channel sub you bridge the channels to get the most power. running the setup the way you have it your running the sub at dual 4ohms. You want to run is at 2ohms. you would wire it like this.

stolen from the12volt.com
http://www.the12volt.com/12voltimages/1_4ohm_dvc_2ohm.gif

The sub is only one speaker so there is no point running two channels into it. And the bass wave is so low that the only way your ears would be able to differentiate between the left and right signal is if you have two subs say 30' apart.

the setup above is a parallel setup. When you run in parallel it cuts the coils impendence in half, the lover the impedance (ohms) the more power/output you are capable of making.

The other option is to run the sub's coils in series, When you do this the impendance is doubled (two 4ohm coils would work out to 8ohms)

Your sub will support a 2ohm load no problem as its a 4ohm dvc sub, you just need to make sure that the amp your purchased is capable of running 2ohms bridged. If you rewire the sub like this you should notice a large gain in power output

monoblock amps (class d) are generally the best for subs as they can run at a stable 0 ohm load. i have a dual 2 running parallel on a class d amplifier.
