Im posting this up because i know a lot of dirt bikers (like myself) do this. if we're on a trail or a fire road, whenever i pass someone in the opposite direction i always show how many riders are behind me by holding up that many fingers. so remember this; if a dirt bike flies past you and he gives you the peace sign, theres a good chance that theres 2 more riders behind him so maybe slow down and use some caution (dont drive strait down the middle going 90k)

if you ride bikes or quads i suggest you pick up this habit. who knows, it might save you a trip to the hospital or worse.... please tell your friends this. ive had some near head-ons in the bush and know a few who have almost been killed. would be nice to know the guy you pass understands what you mean.

thanks for your time

Dave

I've been doing it for years. What kinda peace sign do they think 4 fingers is?

heres a quote explaining it well

If you ride two way trails, please take the time to learn proper trail etiquette in terms of hand signals. When I put up two fingers, I'm not flashing you the peace sign. I'm communicating to you that there are two more riders coming behind me, so exercize caution!

For example, if you are riding in a group of three people, the leader should flash oncoming riders two fingers, the 2nd guy one finger (middle finger not advisable) and finally the last guy should flash a closed fist (no more riders in your group).

Nobody wants a head on collision and hand signals are one of the ways to help minimize accidents.

So, the next time some flashes you these hand signals, please don't wave. Respond with the appropriate hand signals.

i always watch for your hand signals, but when you guys are ripping down an FSR at 90 yourselves, do us all a favor and at least slow down to a point where you don't have to cut corners and have me lock my brakes up

good point. the people i ride with generally don't ride like maniacs on the fsr's we try to keep to the trails. i rarely go over 3rd into a blind corner, they scare the crap out of me.

Not to mention that a dirt bike kicks up rocks as bad (if not worse) than a truck. I'd hate to have to scrape someone off my bumper, particularly after thier buddy just whizzed by and smashed my windshield! :D

First time I ever saw some guy "wave" at me w/ 3 fingers on my DB, I was like WTF:confused: , then saw the second guy give me the peace sign, so I waved (lol), then there STILL 2 riders after him......I figured it out about an hr. later:p:laugh Ever since then I've done the same:redneck

Would be nice if "trail etiquette" was practiced more. Specially places like Stave.. My old truck can't handle the pot holes on Stave road, so i dont drive 90... But the Weekend Warrior Wheenies on their 2wheels of death find that they assume they own the road down there.. I have seen too many "ALMOSTS" and I aint at Stave very often.

As a driver, not a rider, if I signal with one finger, its probably that you're going to fast. :finger_1:
