I am ordering some parts from the US and UPS charges are crazy, up tp 50% of the value!!!. What mailbox services have you guys used in Blaine?. I would rather drive accross the border than line the pockets of UPS brokers. Also who should i stay away from?

been using blaine enterprises for a few years now. $2 per package and close enough that you could walk across the border if the lineups are too long. the only negative thing i have to say about them is that they don't have any notification system other than you phoning in to ask if your package is there.

Shiphappens in Sumas if you don't mind the run out to Abbotsford. Great people. It's walking distance from the border, comes in handy if the lines are long and the parts aren't too heavy. One time it started to pour rain, the lady gave me a ride back to the border. That's service.

So do you have to contact them ahead of time, or just put your name with their address on the package?.

ive been using hagens of blaine...right on peace portal drive couple blocks down from the chev. also walkable from the border. theyre great folks, and they take canadian $. ive shipped 2 sets of wheels to them, each time cost me about $15/set for them to receive. smaller packages are about $2-5$. drop freight is about $50. $1 charge for a phone call to let you know your package is in. go mid day mid week, and you shouldnt have to wait too long.

to setup with them, just call ahead of time, and let them know youre shipping to them. they get your name & #. all you do for your shipping address is your name, their address

depending on what youre buying from and from whom...see if they can ship direct to you via USPS. smaller things ive shipped this way. you dont have to bend over for brokerage fees, and if youre not home, it goes to the nearest postal outlet. unlike couriers...where if there is a sig required, and nobody's home, they try a couple more times. if nobodys home to receive, it goes to their distribution center on annacis island and you pick up from there.

I've used Package Express in Sumas (litterally within sight of the border) and ahve had nothing but positive experiences there. $4 for anything under 50lbs. All you have to do is set up an account on their website. They even let me email a bill of sale to them and they printed it out for me so I could cross the border hassle free. :beer_cheers:

And they email you as soon as the package is recieved

I have used both Blaine Enterprises and Ship Happens, and I've had great service at both.
As far as knowing when a package arrives, I usually use UPS or USPS, in which case I just use the tracking number to find out when its been delivered.

They are open Saturdays from 10-4. I try to leave lots of time to stand in line, or be there before they open.

Ordered a Warrior Rack system for my Sammi from Low Range.
If they shipped it UPS to me, it would've cost $300 ++.
I arranged to have it shipped to a Blaine Customs Broker for $80.00. The Customs Broker then did all the paper work, paid the GST, etc. and delivered it to my door in Vancouver for $125.00.
Of that $125, $39 was GST etc., the balance was the Customs Broker fee. So, for @ $85.00, they did all the paper work and dropped two big boxes at my door - I figure that's money well spent. Didn't have to deal with the border.

I use Point to Point in PT Roberts.

$2 US to receive most packages; no charge for the phone call that its there. Just have the package sent to them with your name and phone number on it. You don't even have to let them know its coming.

I haven't waited more than 15 minutes either way at the border and I just tell CND customs its personal automotive parts, so i only pay PST/GST on what ever i bought.

They're not open on the weekend though.

BTW, always take your own copy of the receipts with you when you go down. I've had a shipper not include a bill with the packages and they were closed when I hit customs. Luckily the border guard was nice enough to look up the price on the internet and not give me a hassle.
