So I bought a new to me truck. see my other thread in the toyota section.

Anyway it came with a winch that the owner said was not working. I'm going to have a look at it and need help identifying the model. Here is a pic of the plate on it as well as one of the winch.

edit - the right hand case has 159333 JA9 stamped on it. Sent an email to warn too.

Looks like a Warn M8000. Mine looks the exact same, i have an M8000. Take it to Ropate on Mitchell Island to have it repainted if you want, they're really good. And Brighouse Electric in Richmond to have everything inside rebuilt if it's not working. It looks in a little rough shape. Ropate repainted my winch and bumper. Brighouse electric rebuilt my winch .

Thankyou very much. I will look into the two places you mentioned. Yes it's pretty rough looking. I'll go through it and see what is needed to fix this one up.

Thats the same motor model number as my M8000, so a good guess would be M8000

Of course most the parts between and M8000 and M6000 are interchangeable.

I don't know what you've been feeding your winch but it looks like a cat to me!

He seems to think that the winch is his new toy.

i'm betting that one reason it doesn't work is because the solenoid box is missing

Solenoid pack is remote mounted. There is currently a bad solenoid but the winch works otherwise. Now where to find a winch solenoid. Any recomendations or is the place in Richmond the only one around.

SO you have the winch solenoid , blackbox, everyting that i posted in the picture of the WARN M8000 . I know theres an automotive electrical repair shop between Langley and Aldergrove on the Fraser Highway, i dont know how good their work is though. Brighouse Electric did great work for me, more than once and they did is fast. Done work for my friend too. Buddy's dad has a company in Salmon Arm that uses them also, go figure. 4-5hours drive just to have work done.

I just need one solenoid for now. The winch motor runs, free spools, and pulls in. So now I need to get a solenoid. I would assume you go to a Warn dealer for this part, but do the prices vary depending on where you go?

lordco sells them

you don't need a warn solenoid, just a continuous duty starter solenoid. early '90's ford ranger ranger starter solenoids work too but they're not continuous duty although i've know people that used them instead because they're cheap. you could go to chilliwack pick-a-part and get a bunch of solenoids from there for cheap and replace them as they go bad.
