Anyone tow their buggy using a tow-bar? I want to tow my 4runner and need to know if it's feasable, or do I have to trailer it?

I flat tow my samurai but it is under 1400 kilo. If your 4runner is over 1400 kilo it will need it's brakes activated by the towing vehicle (unless you are towing it with something big like a dumptruck or bus type rv)
It will need valid insurance (not a trailer plate) and meet the motor vehicle act. etc...

Even with a motorhome you're limited to 2000kg.
I tow my stock YJ because its 1380 kg, hee hee with a hardtop it wouldnt be legal.
You can register it as a trailer though and run a trailer plate on it, but still the weight has to be below 1400 kg or you'll need a VI to insure it legally as a trailer.

I think the buggy can only weigh 40% of the other vehicle's weight, up to 1400/2000kg, unless you have a proper braking system hooked up. So your buggy should only weigh 700kg for your 4runner ;)

Well yeah you could say that, but our government is so organized they left the percentage details out of the trailer regulations, so therefore if its a "trailer" you can tow up to 1400kg before brakes are required.
