Looks like the owners of 4x4 imported under the 15 year rule may be able to soon start enjoying their rigs than worrying about what the future may hold for them or plans to import other 4x4s.

Here is a link to a post on IVOAC with some very good digging that Rockcrete has come up with on what appears to be a clear conflict of interest and the questionable past of the current head of ICBC: http://www.ivoac.ca/pn/index.php?nam...ewtopic&t=1039. Some may rember that it was ICBC and the BC Ministry of Transportation which started started the ball rolling against these vehicles imported under the 15 year rule. Now combine this with Transport Canada's decision http://www.ivoac.ca/pn/index.php?nam...ewtopic&t=1032 to no longer pursue extending the 15 year importation rule to 25, makes me believe that the end of this nonsense near.

I am looking forward to just enjoying my 4x4 and not worrying about the threats of being harrassed for having a legally imported and registered vehicle just becuase it wasn't origonally sold in the North American market. I might even look at importing another one from Japan just to give the :finger_1: to the big dealers and their friends. Got to love a Free Market.

You notice how the Gov't took your money FIRST, then decided it was "illegal" afterwards. :shakehead:

Hmmm Just like the guys that import Cruiser "parts" vehicles to make near new LHD Cruisers.

To answer your question, the federal law allows you to import a vehicle provided that it is 15 years old from the build date stamped on the frame. Provincial laws (MVA) govern what you have to do to register the vehicle. You are more likely to get hung up with them. Although in BC, IVOAC has developed a good relationship with CVSE in the MOT who is responsible for inspections prior to registration and it is quite clear what you have to do to meet the BC MVA.
