My friend call a place in town about purchasing/installing a set of 5.29 gears into his 85 toy p/u. They told him $2200.00 installed with him out the door. Now I admit than I'm a little new to the whole 4x4 thing, but isn't that a little steep? How much are the parts only? Or is it that hard to install and set them up yourself?

Gears arent terribly difficult to install, just time consuming and you have to be patient. Toys are a bit easier due to their 3rd member design so you can take the whole rear end out and work on the bench with it. Price wise it looks a bit steep to me, best shop around anyway.

I think your best bet is to just bring the 3rd members in. It is farely straight forward to get them out and then bring them in. If you bring them into Sport Trucks they'll give you a good price. It should probably cost approx. $1200 give or take a few bucks if you do it that way. :D

1200 sounds more resonable. that would probably be the best way to do it. Removing the thirds between the two of us could be possible. Thanks:beer

The $2200 price tag was probbably with you just dropping the truck off and them doing it all (removal and installation),pull the third yourself, you will save a bundle.
