Are there pop ups on this board now or did I download something I wasn't aware of from somewhere else? I keep getting pop ups when I log on to bc 4x4.

I've never had it happen to me on this site... every other site on the internet yes.. but not bc4x4. Download a program like pow or something similar... then your computer can block most of them.

I had a smilar problem a couple of months ago, I would get popups everywhere, even when my internet browser was closed (I have cable). My brother found some program he was not familiar with when he pressed ctrl-alt-delete, so he closed it down, erased the program, and voila: no more popups.

There are absolutely no pop up ads used by BC4x4.

If you surf the web you will get spyware and other undesireable programs on your computer. Gain's Gator will pop up ads based on the website cookies you collect. They are facing lawsuits in the US as websites no longer control what ads you see when visiting their sites. Imagine visiting a site to help you deal with the loss of your stillborn child and getting a pop up on abortion services... bad timing.
You can't ride the skytrain daily and not expect to catch any germs can you. If you have high speed access then:
Use free utilities like PestControl to scan for spyware and trojans,
PestControl (http://safersite.com/PestPatrolexe/)
Adaware to also scan for spyware
Adaware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/)
If your still not using a seperate firewall  there is ZoneAlarm. For those wise enough to use those DLink or LinkSys Router\Firewalls it works well as a TripWire type detection for when\if you firewall is breached
ZoneAlarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/application?namespace=zls_main&origin=global.jsp&event=link.skuList&&zl_catalog_view_id=201)
To monitor all TCP/IP activity on your machine, especially before you install Zone Alarm. You'd be surprised how much needed IP traffic goes on behind the scene.
TCPView (http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/tcpview.shtml)
Remember it's not paranoia if they are really after you.
How many of us have alarms on our trucks??? No difference.

You can download a real useful pop up stopper at www.panicware.com . I've tried a few and this seems to work the best, at least with Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Hey try cleaning out your cookies that will help. Take a look around in your comp. and see if there are some exe. file that don't belong. I had to get rid of some garbage that I picked from the web that was doing the same thing then I installed a program to stop the dreaded pop up
:angry stupid pop ups:angry

download Ad-aware. I was having the same problem. Ran Ad-aware and found all kinds of interesting stuff on my system. Once it was cleaned up the problem stopped. :)

change to .Avant browser (http://www.avantbrowser.com/) . Many good features for heavy intrernet users. Just keep it up to date and the popups are under control. It is more stable than IE.
