would i just use a stainless wire and a high argon gas (like blueshield 7)

If you don't care about the weld rusting just weld it up with what ya got. Should be fine. Done tons of it.

Grade E309L is developed specifically for welding of dismiliar metals. If you want to weld Stainless to Mild Steel use a grade E309 in either SMAW(stick)/GMAW(mig)/GTAW(tig) FCAW(flux cored). Yes! Fluxcored in Stainless Steel, either formulated for flat/horizontal position or all position. It is incredible! :laugh
