Hi,

I am looking to purchase a VHF radio for emergency & safety reasons.
I am wondering where the best place is to buy one from.
Don't need anything too fancy, just something reasonably priced.

Thanks

$400 (plus antenna) for a 128 channel Icom F-121 at Freeway Communications in Abby, they'll prolly put any channel you want in it, just if it's iffy they'll set it to only scan it...

FWIW, I bought a couple of ICOM's from Com-West over the course of a couple of years. Both times, I got him to sell at a price close to what I could get from US e-tailers (after factoring in shipping, etc).

He's at the south end of Main Street.

What's his name? I can't quite remember. I think it's Stan.

I can't remember either but Gavman was there last week. He probably does.

It's Stan. A thumbs up for him too, great communication explaining to me what antenna to get for my unit. Picking up a Larsen NMO2/70 tomorrow.

I've run MJF, Larsen, and Maxrads now and I prefer Larsen. Just my .02 if that helps anyone (they're what I find to put out the best for VHF and withstand the rigors of BCs winters as well as they ever can). LR

How much is that NMO2/70 Larsen?

This is for a 2m radio? Now that I've mounted my ICOM2200H into the Jeep, I suppose I should install a real antenna.

I think it was 79.99 plus an extra 14.99 for a spring to protect it from trees.

That spring works awesome, I had my antenna bent at 90 degrees a few times last weekend,
Worth the extra bucks for sure...Thanks Stan

yeah i'll get the spring too I think.

they are getting in a new batch of the Larsens today, but call to make sure they have one in stock before the trip to the shop.

The closed spring design is better at avoiding branches.
