To make a very long story short, the tire is back on (well a different one is, old one got punctured it turned out), and I even made it to the airport on time to pick up my buddy and give him back his truck! (luckily on my part his flight was delayed 1 hour).
MUCH thanks to everyone who helped and offered help, its really nice to know that in circumstances like that help is available.
Thanks again to Gord and Bill for the efforts of that night and for the ride back home, and to Pat and Brian for the tire help and ride back out there!
The moral of the story is (and it seems there is always one), even when you know better than leaving home without...ALWAYS carrry a spare!
