This might be a dumb question, but o well.

I just made a mounting spot for my battery on my tent trailer. Im just wondering, does the battery need to be inside a box (incase it gets hit my a rock or something while driving) or is it ok to just be like it is? (see picture)

Not only for mechanical damage but your terminals won't corrode as fast and it'll eliminate the possibility of an accidental short. I'd prob put a true deep cycle in there when you replace it. BTW, the truckbox on the bridle looks like a great idea.

ya thats what i was thikin. Kinda sucks. ill have to take one of the angle iron off and re'weld it on. Its like .5cm too narrow for my battery box.

Guess it wouldn't be worth it to just get some sheet and box it in ? A block of wood between the batt and the underside of the box's top would prevent it from shorting...just a thought
