The recent efforts by tulameen community groups to stop camping at the river are in vain, as tulameen DAZE will never die. this is an issue of land use, and you cannot stop people from going to the river. with deterents like private security firms taking down license plate #'s. Last year saw a huge crowd, one of the largest yet, even without the live bands. why not have those licence plate fools do something useful like collect a small fee from the campers for the clean up effort when they roll by on their way in? $5 x 1000 people should afford some portable ****ters, and a few garbage cans.
we are not going away. As a local i can say that this is the only fun thing that happens in this valley all year round, and has always been the event for upcoming musical artists, or local cover bands, or whoever wants to take the stage , in an outdoor hard rock event.
for 2007 i hope to see an even bigger, louder, more wattage tulameen daze than ever...

Its kind of stupid to have a event that big bringing in that many people and not have poopers and garbage cans with people maintaining it.

Its bringing money to the town.

Well, as a part time resident of Tulameen with property pretty close to the party zone, I disagree.
Most of us Tulameeners have no problem with the party and the camping, even the noise. Its the bloody mess that these idiots leave, its friggin disgusting. Oh, and did I mention the petty thefts and vandalism ? Or the fires that are started and left burning ? Try waking up to the sound of the local Fire Dept. running through your yard dragging hoses to the bush to put out fires. Throw in the brainless who motor up and down the river in their 4 x 4's and its not a nice weekend.
Maybe you enjoy the debauchery but do you clean up after, or do you enjoy living all weekend like a pig and then just leaving your mess behind ? As a 4 x 4 er (or at least on this site I would presume you are) the actions of the "campers" bring all the rest of is into disrepute. Do you clean up after ?
My neighbours and I usually wait until Monday afternoon and then don rubber gloves, get the wheelbarrows out with the shovels and rakes and we clean up your garbage.
And there have been porta potties put there in past, along with garbage bins. The idiots burnt them.
And no, the town makes very little $$$ from the "campers", the $$ are made ftom the responsible visitors who attend the weekend functions, etc. Any $$ made from the "campers" spending is more than spent on cleaning up after.

well , i can't argue with that, the mess is a problem. I enjoy the music, and the long weekend. Its unfortunate that some people are pigs and leave such a mess.

I lived in the Princeton area for over 18 years and still have family up there. I avoid Tulameen days because of the concentration of drunk and high idiots. It could be a fun time but it just isn't worth the risk of driving around there in a vehicle or a boat. Princeton doesn't have enough RCMP (even with the extras they bring in) to police it properly. The garbage is a pain to clean up for those who live there. The damage people create by driving in river and creek beds and off trails and FSRs takes a lot longer to repair. And yes, you can stop people from damaging river beds and public lands. You just need enough police /conservation officers and big enough fines to stop it.

I'll probably end up there for a day or two, I have friends that live there. I just looked at the Tulameen Community Club site here: http://www.tulameencommunityclub.com/events.php

They said the river will be closed to traffic and camping and patrolled by the police.

Bummer.

what a bunch of bs this river closure is.they have no authority to shut down the river, besides all it will take is about 4-5 guys to move the rock. it seems the community wants to become an exclusive club of property owners, and everyone else can bugger off.they want to be able to drink and drive 350 days of the year, and then call the cops on the long weekend to deal with"the coastals". kind of a double standard.

Fronco, I guess you just don't get it.
It has nothing to do with "property owners" but has everything to do with responsible use of the land.
No one in Tulameen cares if there are campers at the River as long as the mess is cleaned up and the laws are respected. Hell, I never minded the noise even, we'd head down with the neighbours to the jungle and enjoy the band quite often.
Its the mess that's left, the out of control fires, the driving in the river, the thefts and vandalism to the neighbouring homes ........ need I go on?
The Community has tried over the years to resolve these issues but if the idiots keep coming back and keep doing the same juvenille things, what the hell do you expect?

It has nothing to do about property ownings. I guess you don't realize the amount of damage done to the eco system and wildlife etc when you drive your vehicles in the river. No im not a green party supporter, i hunt and i've been called blood sport support before because i hunt.

THeres a forestry campsite in coalmont that is essentially a big grassy field and can hold hundreds of campsites for $10/night/vehicle - Granite creek campground.

You could probably camp on the many logging roads that go up the mountain for hundreds of miles in the area for those that would rather buy another 6-pack with the 10 bucks.
