(Almost like a tongue twister eh!!!) Anyways I am curious to know what your opinions on the different models of Warn winches are? I am looking at the XD9000/i, HS9500/i and the new 9.5ti Thermometric winch. I have yet to look into the price difference between the few and that could still be the determining factor. Which is best, any personal, experiences, what is your opinion??? Thanks!

Warn is about to release another new winch (9.5si) with a mosfet control pack. No solenoids.

I think it was 4wheeldrive and sport utility magazine that just did an article on the 9.5ti, they were impressed with its performance. Its in the issue with the red early bronco with flames on the front. They will have a better review on it in next months magazine.

just get the cheapest one... which is most likely the xd9000i. that is the one i have and i have never had a problem with it. so what if your winch takes 10 seconds longer to get you up a rock face (is that 10 seconds really worth the big $ difference)

It is if your crawl speed is faster than your winch speed so you are always creating slack in the cable if you try to "help" the winch.

I have the HS9500i on a multi-mount for my toy. I really like it, but as it is my first winch I don't really have anything to compare it with.

It is quick, pulls hard and got KMA back on all four tires in no time :D

Another thing to consider in addition to line speed is the current draw. Even though these winches are all similarly sized their electrical characteristics are not the same. Also depending on your application sometimes the physical dimensions can come into play.

What about the warn 8274-50 that has awesome line speed and 150ft of cable on the spool.

12V DC PERFORMANCE SPECS:

Line Pull Line Speed Motor Pull by layer:
Lbs.(Kgs.) Ft./min.(M/min.) Current layer/Lbs(Kgs.)
0 74.4(22.4) 55 amps 1/8000(3629)
2000(910) 22(6.71) 190 amps 2/7460(3384)
4000(1810) 12(3.66) 275 amps 3/6980(3166)
6000(2720) 9.50(2.90) 350 amps 4/6620(3003)
8000(3630) 6.10(1.86) 450 amps 5/6290(2853)

The Warn XD9000 (5/16" Cable x 100ft)

12V DC PERFORMANCE SPECS:

Line Pull Line Speed Motor Pull by layer:
Lbs.(Kgs.) Ft./min.(M/min.) Current layer/Lbs(Kgs.)
0 38(11.6) 70 amps 1/9000(4082)
2000(910) 14.4(4.39) 180 amps 2/8190(3715)
4000(1810) 11(3.35) 255 amps 3/7500(3402)
6000(2720) 8.67(2.64) 330 amps 4/7010(3180)
8000(3630) 6.88(2.10) 415 amps
9000(4080) 6.38(1.94) 460 amps

The Warn HS9500i (5/16" Cable x 125ft)

12V DC PERFORMANCE SPECS:

Line Pull Line Speed Motor Pull by layer:
Lbs.(Kgs.) Ft./min.(M/min.) Current layer/Lbs(Kgs.)
0 62(18.9) 47 amps 1/9500(4313)
2000(910) 16.3(4.97) 160 amps 2/8650(3927)
4000(1810) 11.8(3.60) 230 amps 3/7920(3595)
6000(2720) 9.31(2.84) 305 amps 4/7400(3359)
8000(3630) 7.59(2.31) 370 amps 5/6940(3150)
9500(4310) 6.67(2.03) 425 amps

I personally would go with the 8274-50 or HS9500i as they seem to be almost equivalent in performance other than the fact that the 8274 is rated at 8000lbs max pull, however it does have an extra 25ft of cable if you need to double back with a snatch block.

Just my $0.02 worth!

I am happy with my Warn XD900i. Only really needed to use it once to get unstuck. Been great around the yard and at work.
I do intend to upgrade the 4g wire they use on it to 2gauge, but the problem seems to be the grommet they pass the wire through.

I had a hell of a time putting in some 4g from my stereo setup as i bought my winch used and it had to short of a positive cable.
