I was campin with a bunch of friends up at harrison this weekend. Forget the name of the place. Past the 12km mark on the west side, right before the bridge. The place where you can camp down on the beach or up in the trees. We camped on the beach friday night, but b/c of the weather moved up into the trees on saturday. At night we had a tarp set up over the trail, and my truck was parked in the middle of the trail, tied to the tarp. Around 8:30 a bunch of morons in 3 toyotas come down the trail. So we move the tarp and my truck and let them get down to the beach. Half and hour later, these guys start bootin around in the trucks, piss drunk. One guy desides to see how far he can drive up the creak. His motor hardly runs, and he has no muffler. He has to constantly rev it to keep in running. Well anway, after bouncing over rocks and logs for a bit, he comes to a log, right beside our camp, that is laying from high up on the bank down into the water. So he pushes the log about 6 feet before bouncing over it, and then getting his back end stuck up on it. He's not going anywhere. So after messing around trying to cut the log, his friend comes to pull him out from behind, with no success. He then goes back down the creek and gets high centered on some logs. So, the third truck, a nicer late 80's early 90's runner has to come help. He's been watching the whole show, probably not wanting to help and wreck his truck. So he pulls the one guy out, then goes up the creek and around the other guy to pull him foward. Only one problem, theres only about 20 feet of room past the guy before some huge stumps and logs block the creek off. Well, anyway, he gets the guy off the log, but now the guy is in 4 feet of water, can't get out, and the runner has nowhere to drive forward. So now tries to pull the guy downstream and spin him around, not working, he also now is stuck in the deep water. Ok, this has gone on for at least an hour, and me and my friends have been watching the whole thing and the entire time I keep saying "I won't help them, I don't care, they're idiots." But eventually I had enough and was quite angry, so I finally went and help. Took over the situation, tired to get the guy in the runner to stop trying to get himslef out b/c he was only making it worse, but he wouldn't listen. I went way around high up on the bank on the other side and pulled the first guy up out of the water and told him to turn around and pull his friend in the 4 runner out. The whole time he's been trying to get himself out while getting himself deeper and deeper into the water. So the first guy goes past the 4 runner, starts getting the tow strap ready, but in the meantime the 4runner finally gets out, but ends up running into the other guys truck. The whole time the third truck has been driving around, doing nothing to help the situation. So what took them over an hour, and a lot of damage to their trucks, to me 5 minutes to do. Yes, I took a bit of damage, but that was b/c twice the idiots didn't tell me I wasn't hooked up, and I stepped on it to pull the guy out, and I went flying into the bush. So to the the idiots in the 3 trucks, if any of you are reading this: Get a brain, that was very stupid. Drinking and driving is stupid. Forestry roads are still legal roads, there is even a speed limit. And wheeling while drunk is dumb. Causing that much damge and driving up creeks is not resposible and does nothing for the 4x4 community. I'll be sure to thank you guys when the next trail gets closed.

Randbeast, did you have a green subaru parked up the trail a short distance from your camp? If so i was they guy in the camo toyota who backed up and turned around when i saw your camp. I took the trail to the right instead, through the big puddle, and then onto the beach. I saw a few chuckleheads up there this weekend too, but not many because i choose to camp at the opposite end of the lake to get away from them. This is why i end up wheeling alone. Im afraid if i hook up with someone theyre going to do stupid stuff, and then laugh at me because i dont want to join in. I dont want to run over dumped cars or drive through creeks or deep water and the like. I met with one guy who had his toy in 4 wheel drive on a perfect 2 wheel drive road! Ouch! The garbage up there is getting really bad too. All that aside though, had a pretty good time up there, a little wet but at least it was warm out.

This song is sounding way too familiar. It's weird I can go out wheeling a lot and see nothing but people that respect the land and others, and they're are times when I see idiocy at its finest.

Not that it'll make ya feel any better but this garbage is not limited in area. We had an island run on sunday. Ran into one of the worst case of trail stupid I've been unlucky enough to stumble on. Typical walking around, beer in hand, terrible equipment, tearing things up, goofs. What do ya do in the bush...try to reason with a drunk? No. Just stay clear and make sure they only get the opportunity to hurt themselves.
We were a fairly large group and therefore pretty busy keeping our own rigs organised. What I negelected to do (embarrased to admit) was take down the licence plate and make a complaint once out of the bush. Hell, had a digi cam on hand too.
Mental note to self - document these incidents and take the steps to hang 'em via the proper channels.:angry
These are the people that make it so hard for the responsible wheeling community to make any headway with the uneducated population that only has hype and bad publicity to base their opinions on.

I totally agree with your statements on drinking and driving, and driving up and down rivers.
However, you lost me with the line ..."At night we had a tarp set up over the trail, and my truck was parked in the middle of the trail, tied to the tarp"
From my perspective, if I came down a trail and you were camped on it, you would have been the moron in the story. :confused2

Well, it was nighttime, pooring rain, and we had seen no vehicles come down the trail yet, so we didn't expecrt anyone else to come.

Sorry for adding to the off-topic posts but...
I've come across people camping in the middle of the ride twice. Very annoying. Please, never camp in the middle of the road unless you are at the absolute very end. Some of us drive late at night...and it would be a huge inconvenience for both of us to arrange vehicle movement when you're already settled in. ;)

That would have been us. Don't think I remember seeing a camo toy though.
BTW, we weren't camped in the middle of the trail, and we moved out of their way in less than 2 minutes. Under the circumstances, where we were camped was not in the least bit unreasonable. It was very possible to get around without driving over and destroying any trees or bushes, etc. The area was very open. Also, like wade said, there was another trail down to the beach. We weren't camped in the middle of some 4x4 trail, where there is only one way to go. Its not like we had set up camp at the top of the V-rock on Sunrise or anything like that.

I didnt mind going around, because there was another trail that went the same place anyway, the beach. Im sure that people could have gotten around you that way, the beach was driveable.
