I have 2 dana 44 high pinion, with flat top knuckles. I was thinking about selling one but............ Anybody that has 4 wheel steer tell me if I want it or am I just setting myself up for the worlds biggest head ache. I was thinking of getting one of those rock rams 4 the back and running another shaft all the way back from the steering boxs with a 50% reduction. I.E. the rear wheels would turn half the distance that the front would turn. I wanted to use the steering shaft setup so that it would still be street legal. Before you all start flaming me about driving this setup on the street go look at the GMC Denali and the early 90's GT3000.
Talk me out of my insanity please!!(unless your doing it because you want me to sell you one of my axles:D , then you can just :stupid ...........well you know)

I'd want something a little stronger than a D44 front end in the back.

This is not safe (or legal) on the street. Yes other cars have done it, but they have computer controls to stop rear steering above 10 kmph.
Rear Wheel steering is a off-road only vehicle kind of thing...unless you find some way to make it cut-off at a certain speed and have it legal.

I,ve heard of a few guys pinning the steering for on the road. God it woud be nice, but if you did something wrong and it broke on the highway..... That would suck to be crabing sideways down the road, at highway speed.
As four the 44 being strong enough. I think your right lars, alot of guys say that you can use them but you need at least a 60.

There are also other issues like driveshaft offset (since front/rear diffs will be on the opp. sides of the vehicle); the rear axle will have negative caster unless you cut and rotate the yokes; at higher speeds, factory vehicles with rear steer either have a safety lockout or else the rear wheels turn in same direction as the fronts which is a lot more stable than if they turned in the opp. direction.
And finally, unless you're building a competition rig, I think rear steer would be a lot more trouble than it's worth. I'd much prefer the reduced turning radius and increased reliability of a regular set up than the additional cost and fallibility of rear steer.

Before I even started this thread I had my mind made up that I wasn't going to do it, I was just hoping that someone might have a magic 4-wheel steering genie or would talk me into it some how. I think that a more practical solution might be to use the hi-pinion center section and use my waggy axles. I already have alot of offset on my wheels so I don't think the police would like the fullsize axles.
