View Full Version : CB and Sound System not getting along

So long story short...
CB was working fine... then i decided i was going to be a baller and throw in a sound system. Futureshop installed the system and well, ever since then theres been some cognitive dissonance between the two... the problem is when i look at the SA meter its way more lit up and every time the bass beats the meter spikes up and i cant hear a thing coming from my CB. When the system isnt on i can hear my CB just fine and dandy... the question I have is, am i damaging the cb by having it turned on when the sound system is on, and is it easy to fix by just running the lines for my CB and sound system further apart from each other to avoid interference?
Cheers

Maybe have a look at where power is taken from for the sound system and isolate your cb power on a different power source.

I did a search and couldn't find it but I'm pretty its been posted before: niftly little cheap "talkback" addition to the truck.
I got the OEM crappy deck ripped out of the rig and a 50x4 Panasonic CD installed with a set of Sony Xplodes then decided that wasn't enough so I threw a 10" sub in here.. Sounds good but now whenever I key up the CB I can hear myself through the stereo speakers (I should also note that the Sat radio is plumbed into the aux input, not wireless - the original reason I got the deck put in). It was a professional install by Autotemp in Calgary but I do know the CD deck and CB do share common power, plus the coax for the antennas are run together throughout the truck. There are seperate antennas for the CB and CD deck, but it does have the splitter in there and it is hooked up (why? I have no freakin' clue!). Its a stock Cobra 29NW so its not putting out any real power (hasn't been bumped up/tuned yet, don't use it much as the VHF gets used the most), so maybe realistically 3 watts.
It doesn't squeal and my voice is actually pretty clear and it sounds surprisingly good which is kinda cool because I miss having the talkback function on this one, but I also know this isn't supposed to be happening. My main question is will it affect/damage the deck over a long period of time? If not then I won't do anything about it. I'm just curious. LR

I had that problem in a cherokee I once owned. my fix was that when I needed to be using the CB I probally didn't need to have the sub on so I would turn the amp off before any wheeling trips.

Why not use a mobile radio instead?

I've used both and had better sucess with a mounted radio, plus then you're not dealing with the issue of batteries or if internal batteries, then charging them. Plus, when you're driving its less bulk dealing with only a mic.. And maybe I'm just stubborn and stuck in my ways LOL

hey guys
I am just about to install both an amp and cb in my rig... heres a trick i lke to do with all my amps.... I throw a swith into the remote wire , with a 25 amp fuse in it, its like 3 dollars or something. I am going to put a switch onto the amp and the cb , that way they wont both be running (or at least I can control it.)
