hey all
i am just finishing off my wristed radius arm for the front of my bronc
i have ran into a sichyation where my shocks wont follow the arc the the diff travels on,and they sorta kinda bind
.
they do not seem to want to move around too much, i'm thinkin that they may bend when i put them to the test,
is there a fix for this type of set-up?
they have the eye on the bottom, and a stud on the top.
thanx for any replies

How & where do they bind??
The bottom 'eyes' should have lots-o-front/back potential.
The 'peg' should have lots-o-everywhere potential.
I'm guessing the shock itself rubs the shock mount??(I had this prob.)
If thats the case, ya prob. gotta angle the mount more(thats what I did, works fine now).
Or use this GREAT oportunity to justify a dual shock hoop!! :D :D

ok so after a 12 hr night shift 2 pots of coffee a 200 million dollar work shop, i think i figured it out ,maybe
when i bolted the wristed arm in,i did not have the shocks hooked up,(didn't have the mounts on yet)
but while the rig was on the hoist and stuff was apart, we were lookin at this dilemma, or potential dilemma, when you try to move the shock side to side,it seems like the top bushing and nut are too tight,
the bottom of the shock is an eye,but the bolt runs parrellel with the axle, there is no way the shock can compensate for the angle change as the axle drops away from it, this is where the bind has occured,to fix this i found a little cute heim joint for the stud on top,
for the bottom eye, being that i don't have a mount yet,i will build one so that the bolt would go in at a 90 degree angle to the axle
this would let the axle flow on its arc (side to side) undisturbed
kinda the way the track bar mounts work
oh ya all the bushings for the shocks are brand new,and made outa poly, maybe thats why they would not move around
amazing what a couple of mill workers can come up with on a night shift. :boring :welder
anyone use heim joints on there shocks?
if anyone wants to see pics of this set-up just give me your e-mail

I personaly would stay away from a heim joint on the end of your shocks.
Heim joints DO wear out & get sloppy. Thats a lot of unessessary clunkin & bangin in the front IMO.

Is this what you are talking about!

The way I see it the bottom eye bushing is going to become equally miss aligned no matter which angle the pin is mounted to in relation to the axle. I agree that the top mount could use some thicker rubber to allow more crush and freer movement and that the shock mount may need to be rotated for clearance.
What about moking the upper shock mount the same style as the bottom?

If the radius arms are fairly long, the bushings may have enough flex to deal with the angular change.

ha ha snort ha ha snort!
as soon as i saw that pic i figured it out!
while i was scultchin" around a bone yard like a vulture today i found a truck with a stock shock mount(stud hole on top)
but only this one the guy had drilled a hole through the sides of the mount to accomadate a "double eye" shock,
i thought to myself, too bad this idiot recked those mounts!:laugh
turns out he must have been "papa 4x4 dog!" the bolts run parrellel with the frame, the bottom bolts would be stock running parellel with the axle, wouldn't that solve the issue of bind?
no matter wich way you move your axle the mounts would give in ,one way or the other,
or does it?:help :stupid
