Howdy Guys n Girls.
Im currently in the process of swapping out my 2.5/ax5, and headin for a larger powerplant. U might ask, why not a 350? Well, I had a TBI 305 with harness and ECU easily available, so let that be that!
I began the swap in June '06, hoping for nice, long dry days and evenings to work. Well, with an 8 week set back thanks to Novak, the entire summer was wasted.
Im going with a 305/sm465 adapted to my np231. Along with the 4.88 axle gears, this will run a low of about 87:1, and have lots of power in mud, not too much left for highway (im only 5 minutes from work anyways :D). The 4 speed, along with adapter were sent to a tranny shop for rebuilding as I wasnt touching it! Also, the 305 is having a fresh rebuild done by B and J Auto Parts and Machine. Brand new clutch and flywheel also.
For the clutch hydraulics, I ordered from Advance Adapters, and my order arrived in 1 week. this includes a new toyota landcruiser slave, a bracket to attach to the chevy bellhousing and stainless braided line to go to the stock master cylinder.
The reason i am sticking with 4.88s (for now) is, well, gearing isnt cheap. And if i cant handle it, or the gears cant handle it, then they will be swapped out, but the d30 (1 piece chromoly shafts, 297 joints) already had 4.88s to make up for the 2.5 and 35's. Larger tires are in the forcast, but #1 is gettin back on the road again.
I was also going to do a SOA, but also not high on the priority list right now, and would look extremely funny with 35s and another 3.5 spring lift/2 body/1-2 shackle (revolvers) total would be 12 inches with 35s...
Anyhow, the stage i am currently at, is getting the motor/tranny/tcase mated and mounted. From there the wiring can begin, and once its running, the rear end and exhaust built/mounted.
I also wanted this thing to be aircared, which is another reason no 350.
Will try to get some pics, but so far nothing all that interesting until the motor is out of the shop... before New Years I imagine
