Hello All;
I hold a Restricted Radio Telephone Operator's Certificate from Industry Canada. I have one for Land use and one for Aeronautical use which I received in '96/'97
I would like to obtain a call sign for my vehicle...do I need to upgrade my certificate or can I submit an application for a call sign with what I have?
thanks for your input.

an ROC?
this is no good for the ham band, you still need a ham licence. but you don't need to take the test. you just need to find someone who is certified to test ham. show him the ROC, and he'll fill out your paper work for the ham licence.
then you apply for your ham call sign.

Great! Thanks for the quick reply. There is an examiner about 4 blocks from where I live and I have the application form ready on my desk.
Thanks for your help.

What about licencing a commercial VHF? I've heard around $35/yr and would be cheap insurance to keep my radio getting yanked by Industry Canada when they do their searches. Also, can I licence an opened up ham radio? I have an Icom 2100 but it only has the BC/AB Lad channels and some logging freq's as well. I was originally told around $50 but was recently told differently.
If it requires me to purchase a commercial radio then that's fine because I've been considering a 4 channel for the truck anyways then I'll retire the ol' girl to the 4x4 for use on logging roads. LR
